Liner Notes

Michael says: Following last year's collaborative fun, we decided to do an another instrumental. This one's a little different than last year's where Dan challenged me to think of distinct different parts, tempos, time signatures. So I sent him a synth part and percussive part that morphed and changed in three different sections. He sent it back to me with with some additional parts and some amazing panning and mixing. Then I added some more synth sections that mirrored what I did before but fiddling with frequencies, pitch, delay, and reverb modifications. Dan layered that in and became the wild web you hear before you. It's always a treat playing in the audio sandbox with Dan!

Dan says: MOST FUN IN HEADPHONES. A very fun sonic journey to travel on with Michael! The original themes for each of the sections were all beautiful. I programmed some addition drums and added an effected guitar part (recorded at half speed and played at regular speed) that doesn’t sound anything like a guitar.😉 And lots of slicing, dicing, manipulating, panning…. Mix, mix, mix… and more knob twisting. Here we go. Thanks Michael!

Michael again: WHAT?! That was a guitar. Great surprise, Dan! I assumed it was a synth. And YES LISTEN WITH HEADPHONES! (Good ones if you have 'em.)

Whoa--caught me off guard expecting one of Dan's blugrass-y numbers. Instead, a beautiful journey to outer space. You guys are mad geniuses. Or is it geniae. Genies. Whatever. Thanks for the trip.

And now for something completely different! I got a lot of “walking under a highway” or “going through a deserted tunnel to get to work at 5 am” kind of vibes from this. There was also something a little machine-y or steampunk about sections, which added some cool aural and percussive contrast. Nice work!
