Last year, summer specifically, work lead me to some lonely nights at hotels, away from the missus. I know life is not like a Jane Austen novel, we could still text and phone and talk with one another, but it was still something I wish I didn't have to do because I just dig her company too dang much.

I wrote the chorus to this one night after a long, hot, awful day of work onto one of those hotel notepads, and hummed it into something real by the time I drove back home. It laid on a voice memo for a good while until December, when I had time to start writing around it. Hope you enjoy.

Lyrics

Verse 1: You don't get to choose your silence, You only get to hold on tight To the seconds in the moments between us That gave us quiet.

Put the video tape in the player, Rewind it back to the very first time We felt that we were safer together And it was worth it to savor.

Pre-Chorus 1: Maybe we'll tell ourselves "What comes will one day go", But baby I know that's wrong.

Chorus: We've collected every colour Like hotel keys That open doors to the Places where we learned to be lonely.

We'll stand corrected at the end, Worse for wear from where we've been, But make no mistake: We could be our one and our only chance.

Verse 2: I know it won't last forever, It'll be there until the stars go out, But this could be the place we belong For the worse or better.

Let's pull the pieces of the puzzle apart, Cuz going by the box is only killing the art of Making something real, Something you can truly be proud of.

Pre-Chorus 2: Maybe we'll tell ourselves That pain is all we know, But baby, I know we won't.

We've collected every colour Like hotel keys That open doors to the Places where we learned to be lonely.

We'll stand corrected at the end, Worse for wear from where we've been, But make no mistake: We could be our one and our only chance.

We could be our one And our only chance.

I like how it opens up slowly over the course of the track, like a door to a hotel room perhaps. Now that I think of it I don't think I've ever even spent a night at a hotel. Anyway it's cool I like how it turns from this somber tone into like some dance number. I like the closing line "We could be our one and our only chance" it gives me the feeling of like I don't know what you mean, but I know what you mean at the same time.

Chorus lyrics are standout for me. Once the beat kicks in, it really drives things nicely through the rest of the song.
