Harry's Auto Repair
by @racheleve
Liner Notes
An ode to Harry, the one and only auto repair guy I trust and who passes my car for inspection every year even though there are three lights that have permanently been on on the dashboard for over 4 years. Cash only, hours uncertain (but never open past 1 - Harry say "that's when I start drinking"), and he never judges me when I show up for inspection and realize that my registration is expired so I need to run home, quickly renew and print and come back, which is exactly what I did today.
Lyrics
Harry you’ve been here Since long before This neighborhood was a hipster’s paradise
Harry, you’re not open Like the other guys You’re not working 9-5
You make your own rules You don’t care if it’s OK You probably don’t know what the google reviews say You’re a Fishtown staple A junk car angel I hope you know that we are never ungrateful Oh Harry, Harry, you’re our man
Harry, you told me To bring my car in early You’re closing at noon today
Since your wife died You find some peace On a barstool up the way
I saw your eyes well up But a man with a truck Needed your attention, so I never mentioned You’re a Fishtown staple A junk car angel I hope you know that we are never ungrateful Oh Harry, Harry, you’re our man
No other shop Would give my beater the time of day But you gladly take my cash And send me on my way
You’re a Fishtown staple A junk car angel I hope you know that we are never ungrateful Oh Harry, Harry, you’re our man

What a beautiful and powerful homage to Harry! This song is right up there with Buck Meek’s ‘Joe by the Book.’
This is amazing. I love that you wrote a song for a hometown hero! We have a chainsaw repair guy that is such a cool old person! It'll be a real sad day when he's gone... good melody and true lyrics. this is a great tribute!
"You’re a Fishtown staple A junk car angel" so good.
