Liner Notes

This is based on the short story “The Humans Do Not Hide” by Chris Viets, at

https://www.reddit.com/r/humansarespaceorcs/comments/1r5ok0l/the_humans_do_not_hide/ - and I recommend the story!

Vocals to come in a day or two. It's been a VERY busy week at work and I don't have the oomph to record tonight.

Lyrics

V1 They’re just a Type 3 planet, they won’t be hard to kill There’s sapients a-plenty there, you see The Zugons found it easily - it wasn’t hard to find A kleevon glowball hanging in a tree

They want to be discovered, they wanted to be found It’s like they’re not aware they’re not alone The planet is infested with their stupid human lives We’ll all be better off when they are gone

V2 Lord Commander Skarlax consulted with his fleet All ready to commence at his command He spoke into his comms array - “Begin upon my mark,” But Hylux screamed, “No, wait!” as out they fanned

Assessor Loova Savar cried out, “They’re Code Xeelee! “The humans there are far beyond our ken! "They’re a species-killing threat, we must go the other way “And never, ever come back here again!”

CHORUS 1 It looks like such an easy, willing target For harvesting the resources we need But the humans do not hide, they advertise their pride Like they don’t know the galaxy must feed

Why don’t they hide themselves? Why can we see them? They show up from a million miles away Are they stupid? Are they clueless? Are they peaceful? They are harmless, let’s get on with it, I say

V3 Lord Commander Skarlax demanded a debrief And Loova Savar said “They’ve won before!” “We’ve looked at all their broadcasts - a terrifying sight “At least three times, we’ve died at humans’ door!”

"The first invasion lasted just forty minutes long "The biosphere infected them, they fell! "The second lost its mothership on Independence Day "A network virus sent that one to hell!"

CHORUS 2 It looks like such an easy, willing target For harvesting the resources we need But the humans do not hide, they advertise their pride Like they don’t know the galaxy must feed

Why don’t they hide themselves? Why can we see them? They show up from a million miles away Are they stupid? Are they clueless? Are they peaceful? What is it we’re not seeing here today?

BRIDGE “How certain are you this is true?” the Lord Commander asked. “I am certain,” Savar said, “And there is more — “The last one killed invaders with a dreadful sonic blast “There’s nothing that can stop them, that’s for sure!”

V3 “What is your hypothesis?” Lord Skarlax finally said. “They know that we exist, and they’re prepared. “They’re ambush predators. If we attack them, we will die!” Lord Skarlax looked at her, and then he stared.

“We’ve stayed too long already!" His yellow face went gray. “Full retreat!” he barked into the comm. As the fleet began to pull away, he drew a shaking breath As he realized just how close they had come.

CHORUS 2 It looked like such an easy, willing target For harvesting the resources we need But the humans didn’t hide, they advertised their pride Like they didn’t know the galaxy must feed

They wouldn’t hide themselves, and we could see them They show up from a million miles away They just lie in wait, we’ll be obliterated It’s not worth it — let’s go live another day

OUTTRO It’s not worth it — let’s go live another day Thank Glaxla that young Loova saved the day!

It's always nice to encounter an unexpected Stephen Baxter reference. And I read the story you linked to on Reddit. Cute. It just goes to show just how important those old historical documents can turn out to be.
