Play A Song

Liner Notes

I had a batch of songs I was working on in December. I came up with this song while strumming a chord progression one day, completely forgetting that I was using the same progression for part of another more ambitious song. At first I was annoyed because I liked both of them, but then I started to think of albums that have recurring themes or motifs. So I thought maybe I’d keep this one. This is also kind of a sister song to “Side B, Sunrise." Like a prequel. Not that you needed to know that. Yesterday I took a fresh look at this and rewrote about half of the lyrics. Thought about extending the song out into more verses, but like that it’s succinct.

Lyrics

Why don’t you play a song We haven’t heard in so long Drop the needle, sit back with me Pick up my guitar, play a melody

Remember when I picked that tune Put it on tape, shot for the moon I never thought you noticed much But you played the song, we reached out to touch

It’s been so long since you played for me Since you sang with me, just those memories

Why don’t you play a song.
