The Mall

Liner Notes
Confessional: The other day, I was supposed to be somewhere and at the last minute I turned left instead of right and ended up at the mall. I had not played hooky like that since I worked, and I had no reason to be there. I walked around for a while then I just sat on a bench near the center court. I took some notes. #singersongwriter #acoustic #guywithguitar #observational
Lyrics
Time is such a costly thing So I spend mine very cheaply here Under buzzing halogen Where every echo’s insincere Tuesday hums in minor chords Sale signs blinking red and blue Perfume clouds and polished floors Nothing much, too much to do
If we’re all just passing through Between the cradle and the tomb Pull up a chair beside me friend In this bright and vacant room
Look at all these drifting souls Paper bags and practiced grace Walking circles round their goals In this the air conditioned space There’s a couple holding hands Like they’re guarding something small Young mother lifts her child up high So he can see above it all
If we’re all just passing through Between the cradle and the tomb Pull up a chair beside me friend In this bright and vacant room
Maybe heaven looks like this Fluorescent and unclear A place where we review our lives Between the now and here
I’m no different than the rest Just trying to feel less small Sitting with my borrowed time On a bench inside the mall

Whoa this is cool.. I love the idea of wrong turns ending up as playing hooky. Lovely strumming and vocal melody.. especially enjoy the chorus hook.
So very lovely and reflective. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a day at the mall like this. Enjoyed the layering and build of the song.
This is a great reflective song. The lyrics set the stage and tell the story really well, and the performance is very nice. I enjoyed it.
Fascinating ideas and observations here. You're doing some great writing this season!
