NSFW Skirmish: Forgiven (@s7even) Challenge: SAWTOOTH MELODYLiner Notes
Until last week, I worked at a prison. It was...something. I heard a lot of stories, mostly tragic. And I hope that by listening to them, I at least helped someone's day feel a little lighter.
When the "forgiven" skirmish popped up, the song wrote itself. I jotted it down in my office at work, then took it home and started recording it. A bass line and lead guitar later, @katmtl joined in and added her sparkly magic. Even though it is very late for a skirmish, I think I like this one.
Lyrics
I tell the stories of my ghosts To anybody who will listen Never been good at getting close Never been good at learning lessons
And now I'm here, behind these walls Trying to forget it all Pick me up after the fall I can't take it anymore
What must I do to be forgiven How can I be redeemed for living I'm tired of all this fucking sinning Just take me home Just take me home
I tell the stories of my scars To anybody that can hear them I never wish on falling stars I only wanted to be near them
And now I'm here, behind these walls Trying to forget it all Pick me up after the fall I can't take it anymore
What must I do to be forgiven How can I be redeemed for living I'm tired of all this fucking sinning Just take me home Just take me home
They're coming, they're coming after me They're coming, they're coming after me They're coming, they're coming after me They're coming after me
What must I do to be forgiven How can I be redeemed for living I'm tired of all this fucking sinning Just take me home Just take me home

Wow, I really love the sound bed here. Did you ever listen to the band Bôa? This takes me back to their 90s writes... the melancholy, these vast guitars and chill vocals. I love the lead guitar and bass additions,. really grooves. Good work you two!
I love the straight eighths at the beginning of the lines of the verses and choruses. Harmonies are on point as always. It's definitely a sentiment that I've worked with most of my life. Very relatable and quite the skirmish song!
The tremolo guitars give a melancholy feel right away. Deeply sad, knowing what inspired it.
This is just gorgeous.
Poignant and sad. Impressive. And yeah, that chorus is hauntingly beautiful. A real nice listen.
This a good song, a bit different?.pretty deep and a bit sad, to real.insight. musically very professional
Oh, that chorus.... It's so sad, so full of longing. I con't understand what this job must have been like, but goodness me, it was clearly excellent song food 😀
Great song writing. Great tune. Those words really hit home. I love the vocals, which are both unsentimental and yet touching.
This is really brilliant in the perspective and insight you bring to the lyrics - and the sentiment can be such an wonderfully empathetic reflection on those who are literally imprisoned or those that have struggled within an their own internal prison and relationship. I absolutely love the chorus and the music is fabulous as are your vocals. Great song!
Wow this is amazing! I can’t imagine how draining this work must have been, the line “what must I do to be forgiven” in this context holds so much weight. Amazing interpretation of this prompt!
