A Little Fire
Lyrics
A Little Fire (c) 2026 Aaron Nathans
Am You lit a match to kindling F And soon our eyes were twinkling Am G no B We roasted smores beneath the sky Am Entwined upon this harvest night F We warm our hands and feast our eyes Am G no B As we watched the embers fly B C You pulled me closer G Am I heard you say, let’s get inspired B C To get what you want G Am Sometimes you need a little fire
The jeweler forged our wedding rings We honeymooned on soldered wings Tempered steel built this resort Hang gliding we felt like gods Grasping tight that hot-rolled rod We beheld miles of golden shore
You pulled me closer Each others’ object of desire To get what you want Sometimes you need a little fire
F Mauna Key and Mauna Loa Am Fire in the valley down below F Where streaming molten magma boils G7 It sears the trees but feeds the soil
Old Lāhainā Lūʻau night The hula ladies danced with knives A fire pit ringed with banyan trees On the spit was burning flesh I saw in your eyes I might be next As I inhaled the ocean breeze
You pulled me closer I know the blood that you require To get what you want Sometimes you need a little fire
Passionfruit and boiling rage Screaming what we have to say We scorch the earth, the old world dies And from this dust, we shall arise
Timmy’s wearing party clothes Birthday cake from a wood-fired stove Below the table our hands attach Light the candle, sing aloud He makes his wish and blows it out This new life rising from the ash
I pulled you closer My forever object of desire To get in closer Sometimes you need a little fire

I love this! Beautiful melody and enchanting accompaniment. (Uke? or Guilele?) Excellent chorus/refrain.
Uke! I’ll be in touch about 3/28
I admire how you tell a compelling story, not of a moment of desire or some other passion (positive or negative) like so many songs, but of the long course of two lives, with a through-line of the fire image in a crescendo of campfire, embers, forge, solder, hot-rolled, magma, boiling rage, scorched earth... and then the gentle return to a homely stove and a candle, and resurrection from ashes. Quite masterful, really. Lovely chord changes too.
