Don't Put Flowers On My Grave (Love Me Now)
by @tcelliott
Liner Notes
I read a meme that said something along the lines of, 'Most men get flowers for the first time at their funeral.' And eventually that lead me to this song. I spent quite a bit of time on it, reworked the chorus, wrote new verses and then kind of reset the arrangement. I'm pretty happy with it but I'll redo the vocal at the end of the month. This is the scratch vocal with a lot of tweaks. (I tend to use a lot of vibrato when I'm trying to hit higher pitches and it sounds awful to my ears.)
Feel free to critique this one. I'm looking for opinions on if Chorus first works or not and especially if the title works. If you have a preference then please mention it if you comment:
- Love Me Now
B) Don't Put Flowers On My Grave
iii) Something else entirely
or let me know you like it as is.

Lyrics
Don't put flower son my grave If you can't say you love me now Don't dare ask me to stay If you can't show me today If you can't say you love me now
It's not easy to let you know When I'm hurting deep inside And now I'm asking you to show me That at least you have tried
When I tell you I love you I know exactly what you need
Don't put flower son my grave If you can't say you love me now Don't dare ask me to stay If you can't show me today If you can't say you love me now
When I'm pulling you close And when I kiss your cheek yeah, I make a point to show you How much you mean to me
When I tell you I love you I know exactly what you need
Don't put flower son my grave If you can't say you love me now Don't dare ask me to stay If you can't show me today If you can't say you love me now
Don't put flower son my grave If you can't say you love me now Don't dare ask me to stay If you can't show me today If you can't say you love me now
Don't dare ask me to stay If you can't show me today If you can't say you love me now

Great song, and that sentiment is beautifully on point. And TC, your vocals on this are the best I've ever heard from you. Seriously. Awesome delivery!
Yes! Catchy lyrics that are real, and a bit sad. Male friendships can sometimes suffer from the phenomena that is this song as a whole. Great break!
so good. You can tell all the work that went into this. The chorus works so well especially with that lead in. GUITAR SOLO!
Oh, this rocks. Such a great hook, and I really love the way the melody rises in the chorus. So beautifully done!
The first line / title is awesome! and very catchy, almost like a classic. Love that
I like the "Don't Put Flowers On My Grave" as the title. Catchy song! My mom always told us not to wait until she was dead to give her flowers, so I've heard this motto lots. Relatable. Oh!- I think the vibrato is cool, btw.
This has big country rock energy. Starting with the strongest line ropes the listener in from the very first. I really like the groove. You're laying down here and your vocals are perfectly fine for the form.
I think the chorus works! The only suggestion might be to lean into the flowers imagery---this is a great classic country/Americana love song but you could build on the flowers/death metaphor and contrast it with love today. I really like the changes on the verse and amazing performance and vocals!
Really good title and so true! Many a pro songwriter these days says get the chorus in early and often! all about lack of listener focus in the buying generations! people switch off after 15 seconds. This meets that exactly and it works for me. Very powerful vocal
First off, Don’t Put Flowers On My Grave is a fantastic title. I mean, it’s super click bait. And then you give it great treatment, with the catchy chorus, that I think works well, and the great story.
Starting the song with such a captivating hook is just such a brilliant way to write, T.C., this is fantastic! Everything about this song is structured so well, and your vocal and musical powers just bring your lyrics to life in such a magical way :)
Dude this is a ripper! I love it! Production sounds incredible too! You’ve been killing it all month. Your voice is extra powerful on this and yes those guitars still sound incredible.
