Liner Notes

#bluegrass #country #political The first verse came to me very quickly, and I just took the same structure and kept at it. I thought it could be a good vehicle for some bluegrass-style country playing. Unfortunately, my idea of changing keys all the time got a bit sloppy, but I think the spirit of the song is there.

This is a somewhat elaborate production for me- rhythm guitar, then vocal, then bass, then mandolin (for those 'chop chords') then finally harmonica for the solo.

Lyrics

People come from here, people come from there People come from just about everywhere Some folks cross distances others wouldn’t dare People come from here people come from there

People cross borders, at first they’re just a guest My people set out east, your people set out west Everyone thought their people were the best People cross borders, at first they’re just a guest

People look different, people are all the same Everybody plays that “blame-the-other” game People wanna stay dry when caught out in the rain People look different… people are the same

People draw the lines, people guard the gate People seeking safety, to try to change their fate Hoping love is stronger, stronger than hate People draw the lines, people guard the gate

People and their passages, its all been seen before Some folks let them in, some folks shut the door When people know each other, there seems to be less war People and their passages, its all been seen before

I love this classic bluegrass sound paired with these lyrics, and the way you’ve made this so universal! The harmonica sounds amazing!!

Classic circular folk song construction with timely and timeless themes, good for singing along. The key changes recall Johnny Cash to me. I can picture you changing out harmonicas verse to verse. :-) Nice production - I can feel how much fun you had with it!

the true woody guthrie spirit shines in your lyrics. i like your key changes and dont find them at all sloppy. very deft in fact. your harmonica playing just gets better and better. this might be my favorite of your political songs.

A very jolly way of putting across an important message. I also felt the need for some yee has so I added some myself when it there was a suitable break :).

I wanted a yee ha but underneath the message is felt and heard loud n clear! cool music indeed

Wow I am enjoying all the really well played strings. You are your own band. Wow a key change already! Just read your liner notes - you made them all work and I know that is not easy. Love the beat and the vibe. Wonderful message so well delivered in your lyrics. Harmonica too - what a great solo.

This is bluegrass greatness! Also, a powerful message you tell so well in your lyrics. When the harmonica comes in, pure bliss to my ears
