Nature

Liner Notes
I wrote and recorded a similar song this year called The Major Prophets and I enjoyed the recording style so much, I decided I would try it again. This time with a different subject and background music for setting the mood. So far I have recorded all my songs in one take and it has worked out pretty well. #spokenword #folk #acousticonetake

I invite you to join me now on a short journey through nature and the seasons. If you would please close your eyes and imagine…
Summer
A small babbling brook with crystal clear water slowly meandering around rocks as it makes its way down from melting snow capped mountains. Small puffy clouds slowly drifting across a solid blue sky.
A gentle warm breeze nudges leaves to flutter back and forth as song birds call from high in their branches. The brook gradually widens as it travels ever downward though a large green meadow where flowers of many shapes and colors bloom and sway with the breeze.
In the brook, a rainbow trout lazily swims along looking for a meal and in the distant sky, a lone bald eagle soars majestically over the landscape. A chipmunk scurries through the meadow carefully watching to avoid danger as it searches for food.
Autumn
There’s a chill in the air as daylight grows shorter each day. Leaves begin to change color and float to earth to be strewn by the wind. The skies turn to grey and the water in the brook slows down as melting has ended in the mountains above.
A squirrel is gathering acorns and moving them to a nest built high in an oak tree and you can hear him chattering as he warns other squirrels entering his territory.
The flowers have lost their petals and the green meadow is turning brown as it prepares to sleep with the coming season.
Winter
Snowflakes begin to gently fall from grey skies as the breezes of summer and autumn turn to cold winds. Small animals begin to move into their hideaways and prepare for the long cold days ahead.
With each passing day more and more snow accumulates covering the meadow with a blanket of white. Gusty winds swirl the snow into beautiful shapes and patterns only nature can create.
The water in the brook now stands still on the surface as snowflakes slide gently across the ice. The trees no longer hold their leaves and bare branches paint the horizon with eerie shapes like arms and fingers stretching out in every direction.
Spring
Grey skies give way to blue as the sun rises higher in the sky and melts away the many ice and snow sculptures. Tiny green buds begin to appear on tree branches and the brook begins to flow again winding towards its destination.
Wildlife awakens as the daylight increases and warm breezes waft northward helping winter to release its icy grip on the meadow. A robin bounces along in the greening grass and small animals emerge from their winter hideaways.
Imagine…
A small babbling brook with crystal clear water slowly meandering around rocks as it makes its way down from melting snow capped mountains. Small puffy clouds slowly drifting across a solid blue sky.

Thanks - this was lovely! Enjoyed closing my eyes and visualizing everything. Space for harmonizing with the background chords, which was fun as well.
Oh, I feel like a little girl in the back of the station wagon listening to something on the radio that feels made exactly for me. That experience of feeling seen by being shown the world. It’s a quiet education in how to write songs by noticing the sensory details in a scene. And that return to the beginning makes the seasons turn and keep turning after this episode finishes.
