The Portal

Liner Notes

#electricpiano This song is like a part 2 to Vertigo, almost like a synth-piano opera (sure ain't rock). I'm more proud of this one than any of the earlier ones I wrote. And I do love me a good electric piano. (Not that I'm playing electric piano...).

Lyrics

I'm flying away, away I wish I could stay But the vertigo is just too strong Wrapped around me like a song

There's no time, no time to cry, to cry Just say goodbye 'Cause I'm going home, I'm going home The portal comes and takes its own

And I hate to see you all alone But the portal comes and takes its own

So don't cry, don't cry for me, for me 'Cause all you can't see Is mine, all of it is mine Oh love excelling, love divine

Very proud of you as well. Keep on writing and creating!

Some of the best classic rock music combines elements of vaudeville, dance hall, and musical theatre. Think Alice Cooper, or the Beatles. The interplay of the orchestra and the lyrics is wonderful here.

Deservedly proud, I'd say! This one has a very self-assured arrangement; it follows and enhances emotional weight of the lyrics nicely. And what @sapient said: you've taken a very sparse sonic palette and really made it work for you.

The unexpected full band coda really gets in to the opera thing. Bravo!

Wowza. This makes a BIG impression with only a couple of instruments. The chords on the piano are just so fascinating. And your confidence with that melody is inspiring. I'd need so many takes to get anywhere near that opening line. 🤣 Gosh. This is a beautiful song.
