Liner Notes

This has been about 4 years in the making and finally I have it! Thanks FAWM! Woohoo! In my part of the world there is a hiking trail called the Bruce Trail. I'm a frequent hiker and supporter of the Bruce Trail. Most of the crackpot lyrics came to me while out on the trail. I could never get the song done but this year finished all the many verses and the bridge and stuck together. I'm reasonable happy with it. I think it will confuse some listeners but I like that...I go for ambiguity. I played guitars and bass and sang. NO AI as always with me, but the drum is an ezdrummer loop #finished_it

Lyrics

Verse 1 Were a lot of people going round messing up the place Making holes and knocking stuff down The boys were getting worried it might soon be gone, Fenced in or blown to Kingdom come

Verse 2 So they planned a path along the Niagara spine A place for us to walk in the wild The owners agreed to let this trail go through They did it with a handshake and a smile

Chorus There’s Bruce Willis and Bruce Wayne and Bruce Springsteen too, And that movie with Mel Gibson where his face is painted blue But there’s only one Bruce that keeps me sane, gives me hope, that’s the truth That long skinny friend of mine, My Buddy Bruce

Verse 3 Now there’s people walking up and down the trail Nine hundred kilometres tip to toe Following the nice white blazes all the way In comfort if it doesn’t rain or snow.

Verse 4 Some hikers have trekked it over fifty times Some just a few miles when its sunny Friends of Bruce are out there sweeping up and keeping clean They do it all for love and not for money

Chorus 1 There’s Bruce Willis and Bruce Wayne and Bruce Springsteen too, And that movie with Mel Gibson where his face is painted blue But there’s only one Bruce that keeps me sane, gives me hope, that’s the truth That long skinny friend of mine, My Buddy Bruce

BRIDGE Pines and hardwood all the way Ferns and wildflowers too If you know how to get You know what to do

Verse 5 The wild plants and animals have a place to go Where they won’t get run over by a truck Last week I saw a porcupine shuffling down trail He smiled and wished me good luck

Verse 6 And Bruce has the greatest view cause it’s just a giant cliff They call it an es-cart-ment. You can stand there and lookout for miles and miles around You’re in the Amazement Department

Verse 7 Lot’s of other Bruce’s and I wish them well I’m sure I can name you a few There’s Bruce Campbell, Bruce Lee, and Bruce the shark in Jaws And Bruce Cockburn wrote a whack of songs

Chorus 2 Some of those guys are kind of cute, some know how to sell Some worked their way up the corporate ladder some just married well But there’s only one Bruce that keeps me sane, gives me hope, that’s the truth That long skinny friend of mine, My Buddy Bruce

This makes me think of a distant cousin who played guitar in Arkansas and Oklahoma in bands with people who played with Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys. I like how you use that old style music and fill it up with images from today. There’s this other later for me about that - where maybe things today aren’t really so different as any other period in history (or at least not so much worse).

Thx! That's high praise...being compared to Bob Wills. I love that music.

What a quality and quaint way to talk about loving hiking than personifying a trail named Bruce, who seems to have saved you from being at least a little bored (can Bruce Wayne compete?)

Great tune, catchy!
