Something Green
by @lsorese
Liner Notes
A campfire song about smoking green and seeing grey. Re-imagined from an old ragtime tune.
Lyrics
Verse 1: We went to the shed with Billie Dean, he packed a bowl with something green. By ten o'clock we'd smoked it clean, way out behind the hall.
There was Susie Simms and George and Pete, all lying flat on Wooster Street. the ground shook underneath our feet Billie saw nothing at all.
Oh golly what a high old time, when something took flight that Monday night. Oh golly what a high old time, ain't no one believed us at all.
Verse 2:
Pete said he saw a silver disc, Martha said it moved too quick. George said it hovered, made him sick Billie saw nothing at all.
Susie said a tall grey man stepped right up and touched her hand. George said that was not a man Pete said he was 10 feet tall
Oh golly what a high old time, and such a fright in the dead of night. Oh golly what a high old time, ain't no one believed us at all.
Verse 3:
The sheriff came and smelled the shed, his pudgy face went from pink to red Pete said sir it's like I said it landed right beside the hall.
Martha drew it long and thin, George's looked like a baked bean tin, the sheriff bagged the bowl and grinned Billie said nothing at all.
Oh golly what a high old time, and a mugshot grin at the county bin Oh golly what a high old time, ain't no one believed us at all.
EDIT: Verse 4, thanks @jennakole.
The sheriff drove back late that night, checked that the shed was sealed up tight. something grabbed him out of sight he was gone before the dawn.
They found his car, they found his hat, they found his pen, they found his pad. He came back down a different man, wouldn’t say anything at all.
Oh golly what a high old time, and a change of mind from the thin blue line. Oh golly what a high old time, and he believed us after all.

I need an animated/claymation music video for this YESTERDAY
Love it. Great storytelling. Such a fun song.
Excellent! A brilliant tale told to a jolly tune, and the final verse is 👌🏼
Mwhahahahahhahaha! I’m drunk with power!
This is fucking wonderful lol, I love the sort of childrens song-y cadence mixed with this subject, and totally agree the fourth verse is a fantastic addition
In this group I'd totally be Billie
Old timey and nostalgic and a fun sing along!
Well, this is fuckin delightful. I’d love a sequel where one of them gets abducted Fire In The Sky style… but that’s just me.
Ooooooooooooo, that's a really good idea for a fourth verse. I tried to figure out what I could do, but couldn't find the idea. The sheriff gets abducted, and "he believed us after all".
Ya gotta do it now
Ha! I am loving this, "Oh golly what a high old time!" I can imagine singing this around a campfire all night long
i gotta admit, that 4th verse really ties up the loose ends quite well. fun story and really smooth delivery to boot
