The lyrical content of this song is pretty self-explanatory. It is hard not to be constantly thinking about politics and economics and the entire American clusterfuck, so naturally some of that came out through this song.

This song has been a work in progress this entire FAWM up to this point. It went through some transformation, with the Verse originally being conceived as a Chorus, and different lyrics originally intended for the Verses, but it grew into itself in a different direction. Earlier in the month, I was out grabbing dinner for myself and heard “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” by R.E.M. playing in the background, and I couldn’t help but reflect on how differently it hits nowadays compared to any other time in my life (I am 30). I think that that subconsciously influenced my choice for the chord progression in the Verse (I-V-ii-IV).

Additionally, I've been so focused on getting this song finished and making it sound as close to what I hear in my head as possible, in the crevices of free time in my 12-hour workdays, that I haven’t been able to decide on a good title. I am open to suggestions.

Some of the vocals were recorded in a car during my lunch break, and the guitars were recorded in three different sessions with different setups—and I didn't have the patience this time around to bother with an audio interface for most things, so all the vocals, the drums leading up to the Bridge, and the guitars leading up to Verse 3 were all recorded with the mic built into my 2021 MacBook Pro. I’m still a bit of a perfectionist about getting the mix beefy enough to sound presentable, but I have been allowing myself to be a bit more crude in my recording techniques to get things out the door a little quicker. Hopefully my next songs for FAWM won’t be as involved so I can have a fighting chance of getting one song out per week.
