Pack Up Your Bags
Liner Notes
For some reason, it seems like I write a song with this general theme almost every FAWM. Go figure. This one I actually multitracked ukes and voice and relied on BIAB for percussion and Bass. #fuc
Lyrics
title: Pack Up Your Bags ©Sean McGaughey Feb. 14, 2026 FAWM 08 Intro
V When you walk the road between piles of snow almost up to your hat When your nose and toes are frozen cold you want to leave the place you're at. When Spring is still six weeks away, and you don't think you cancope. Get on a train, a bus or a plane away from winter you hope.
Chorus I need a vacation away from the storms Without mittens, long johns, parkas, and toquesI can finally get warm I need to get out of the snow Pack up yourbags Let's go.
V The sun has not shone and your lawnis four feet under adrift. Youcleared the drivewaybut there's more on the way You're always achy and stiff. When thewalls in thehalls are closing in, you're going out of yourmind. Get on a train, a bus or a plane and maybe you will find.
Chorus
I get the same feeling this time every year I need time off for good behavior Get me Outta here..
Chorus

I'll take you up on that.... Sometime after November or 2029.
This song is the equivalent of two pins colada’s! 😁. The Uke is perfect for this! I guess February is a good time for Fawm.. keep us distracted.
I like the spoons(?) for percussion here. It adds to the brightness of the uke, and it gives me warm weather vibes with that alone, and the cadence is more like latin/spanish music which adds to the flavor of the song.
I like the imagery of snow being up to your hat and then needing a plan to get out. Very lovely song, good lyrics to match. I really dig it!
Terrific tropical, sunny vibe! I definitely relate to this, and that "I need a vacation" line in the chorus has a perfect singalong quality. Although I don't like the heat either. Give me a location in a permanent state of spring or fall and I'm all set!
I feel your pain, sir, I really do. See, this is why Florida fills up with snowbirds at this time of the year. So I'm imagining you singing this while wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt somewhere tropical.
The most snow we got here in the UK this winter was less than an inch. Part of me is jealous of how much snow you get over there, but then I come to my senses and remember when I was out in -30°C and my beard froze to my scarf. Nope.
Very true, especially this winter! The musical texture to this is so cheerful and tropical, like the vacation beaches calling. Love the details of experiencing winter, they are very real and grounded.
Love it. And I share your sentiment - still working around piles of snow here in PA.
This made me very happy: "get on a train, a bus, or a plane away from winter, you hope." Love it!
What a fun change of pace with the tropical vibe! There are not many Canadians who would have trouble chiming in with these sentiments.
Love those spoons…Fun song. I can imagine this topic is fodder annually for a FAWM song.
This is lovely to have a tropical beat to talk about how cold it is this winter. I can relate. Brilliant. I would definitely perform this. Really well written.
Before I re-looked at your profile this song made me realize you were from canada 😀 . this is definitely the inverted under the boardwalk. Loved it!
Aaah, this put an immediate smile on my mouth! So fun and playful, with the percussion, the uke, and your warm voice. Come visit me in Miami, you're always welcome!
