Love Myself
Liner Notes
This feels appropriate for Valentine's Day.
Writing happy, positive songs is hard. Much harder than dark, sad songs. I'm a big fan of Charlie Puth and I wanted to do something inspired by him. So I took his new song "Cry" and came up with this. I also started hearing echoes of Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" as I worked on this. Not so much the melodies, but the energy.
I've been working on this the past few days (life has been busy) and there's a lot of production time, but I like the result.
Something I've noticed: songs with the same progression are harder to write than those with lots of changes.
The lyrics were evasive and it took time to figure out what this song was saying. Everything was coming out too cheesy for me. I finally got somewhere I was okay with. In the second verse I took the first two lines from the billboard in Bad Bunny's Superbowl show.
For the solo, Charlie had Kenny G do a sax solo. So I was hearing a sax solo as well. It's not what I'm hearing in my head but I was ready to move on from this one. Maybe I can get Kenny to play on it. #pop #happy #vocals #keyboards #saxophone
Lyrics
Verse 1
I’ve heard it said that to love yourself That it’s a way you can disobey So when you do, you will take control Because you’ll own your heart and soul
Chorus
I will block out all the hate Love is what I will create I will live my life and love myself
Verse 2
The only thing more powerful Than hate is love, love is what I trust Love may not stop a rocket launch But it will win since it never ends

Yesss to those Sting-esque harmony layers. Bravo, bravo, bravo.
But for real, this is one of my favourite vibes of yours. Great job, Jim.
Thank you very much! ❤️
I sincerely hope more people will listen to your beautifully inspiring love song. You are so right. It is harder to create happy songs. You've done such a great job. Beautiful lyrics, music, singing, playing and production. So catchy and radio ready. I want to hear it on radio, and in movies. Gorgeous work. So skilful and inspirational. Interesting instrumental choice. All works a treat to listen to.

This is wonderful! Great vibes. That keyboard and bass combo is winner. This has a timeless quality that goes beyond the delightful 80sness.
