Indigo Skies

Liner Notes
Tobermory: We worked really hard on this one, chanelling Elton John and Fleetwood Mac.
To emulate the 70s songwriting process, me and @kahlo2013 fell in love, wrote love songs to each other, went on tour, split up while having to sing these songs to each other afterwards, and then went on to develop recreational drugs habits. It's the only way.
Liz wrote words, Howard played instruments. There may be a flute from Liz coming,
Liz Says: I feel so fortunate that the randomness of FAWM random collaborations paired me with @tobermory who is a phenomenal musician! And what are the odds given our back-story described above! Howard sent me an incredible piece of music with a melody line to put some words to and has been kind enough to allow me to add some flute if I desire - but I don’t feel my fluting skills are up to the caliber of his music and I love the song as is with his gorgeous vocals!
Lyrics
In the wildflowers of lush valleys Within dancing leaves of the willow trees Rolling waves of open seas You come to me
In soft moonlit nights Under indigo skies All is good when you’re with me Deep in my dreams
In fragrant meadows of vast terrains Within dancing light playing through rain Golden hue of autumn grains Love remains
In soft moonlit nights Under indigo skies Separating this hopeless fool from the wise All is right when you’re with me Deep in my dreams
In my dreams Here with me
In bright cloud free days Under brilliant sun rays The swallows find new homes I will try to find my own
All is right when you’re with me In all I see
All I see Here with me

Wow! 4 minutes and a half of firework. It felt like a journey in a Wolkswagen van full of colors and laid down persons. One surprise every ten second. So many colors in the music and the words! Great job!
Love this! The phrasing of the lyrics is not at all what I would have guessed it would be from reading it but it’s so good! The melodies are wonderful, especially those soaring high parts. Lots of surprising Beatlesesque twists and turns (have you heard of those guys?) The lyrics have a wonderful technicolor retro vividness to them. Great collab and I love to see two friends from completely different corners of the globe randomly getting paired! 🥰
Oh my! What a great journey. There's (rightly) lots of talk of the 70s, but I'm definitely hearing a lot of Beatles influence in there too. That falsetto jump... inject it into my veins, pls. And whilst you're there, the "In my dreams" bit, and that blink-and-you'll-miss-it 3/4 parts. And if that syringe has anymore space, the solo too. The lyric is lovely, and in pairing with the music it gives them a psychedelic bent that may not be there just on paper.
Ooh, from the liner notes I was expecting a Fleetwood Mac kinda sound and I guess there's definitely some 70s production here (maybe more ELO to my ears?) but the psychedelic feel caught me off guard. Love the crunchy piano and the way the melody never quite goes in the direction I expect - in places it feels a bit Stereolab, but the soaring chorus is again totally different. Perfectly musical lyric and a wonderful musical journey!
Yessss this always happens to me. I aim for a couple of artists, and end up hitting other faves and the Beatles, every time. The melody is a realisation that if I put whole stanzas in it would end up being about seven minutes long. URGGH don't waste my time, I got places to be
From the initial fake out 3/4 intro I knew I was going to be delighted, and I really was. There’s so much to have at here it’s like a banquet. I like others really love that ‘separating the fools’ bit of the chorus. It’s so beautiful and quite touching. Such a yearning quality that it makes me want to immediately replay it to make me feel everything again.
The origin story is epic and produced the perfect union to emulate those verified legends (some of my favorites btw)! The harmonies and backing vocals are just perfect to emphasize the killer main vocal. Love the keyboard drive and kind of jangly tone there. Hell yes to the key change at “in my dreams,” chased by a slightly psychedelic instrumental break, so tasty! Excellent collab!
Clever song, lots of musical ideas flowing through this - your ability to modulate at will is really great and that rhythmic modulation in the middle is terrific. Super musical write with a stellar performance that really lights up the great lyric. Loved it!
Rich, clever, ambitious, stylish, wonderfully delivered. There is indeed a dreamlike vibe that perfectly matches the gorgeous, colorful imagery painted in the lyrics. That's an impressive work, kudos.
Fantastic song and collaboration. You should collaborate more often :) Beautiful lyrics, music, singing, playing, production, atmosphere. So wonderful and uplifting. I love the title also. Your instrumental part takes the song to the new hights. Your voice and playing are superb. I love it when inspiration comes together with masterful work and the ending result is so polished yet so natural and likable in every way.
Incredibly lush production; special props for the backing vocals and the high notes on the bass. And beautiful lyrics. Seriously impressive all round.
Amazingly good lyrics by @kahlo2013 and fantastic overall production by @tobermory and I get the 70's vibe...I'm sure it would have been a smasheroonie back then but why not now too?
She's got that special touch for sure! I gave her a tough assignment by writing the song first, hey let's make that target extra small for no reason right?
Such a huge production! I am nowhere near educated enough in music theory to describe what's going on here but it's incredible how much of a journey this song takes you on - there are more sections in this one track than I usually write across five or six and the amazing thing is how well they all hang together. Some particular highlights - the longer second chorus with that extra "Separating this hopeless fool from the wise" line inserted in the middle is really cool - throws off the expectation for repetition which I guess is a theme for the song! The tempo shift at 2.13 works really well and and is really well executed and I love the instrumentation in this section - the chunky piano chords and that nasty (in a good way!) sounding guitar. Instrumentation is brilliant throughout though. The vocal melodies throughout are incredible, that dreee-eeeee-ams with the aaahs underneath especially and in fact the aaahing and ooohing throughout is fantastic. Sorry this ended up an essay but basically, this is great
This is lovely! Some proper retro vibes in the instrumentation. I absolutely love that vocal melody and there's some beautiful harmonies in there too. Some really clever little twists and turns in this. Some compelling imagery conjured up by the lyrics too. Wonderful collaboration.
