Asters
by @robheron1
Liner Notes
This is just a folky tune about Asters which bloom late summer/fall. Simple changes. Will be easy for people to follow along. #onetake
Lyrics
I’m tongue-tied and stuptified & getting in my own way Every time I see you girl, I don’t know what to say
A poet and a harlot And Momma’s little baby girl The last thing I hope to see Before I leave this world
Chorus Asters in the hay field And apples on the ground The last gasp of summer Before it all comes down
The best hand I ever had Four Queens and an Ace Let’s have a shot of whiskey Before they wreck this place
Watching and waiting, Standing by the wall Ask that girl to dance boy, Nights about to fall
Chorus Asters in the hay field And apples on the ground The last gasp of summer Before it all comes down
Say it’s now or never Never say you will Can never have enough To ever get your fill
It’s cold and it’s dark, Should be home in bed Nothing left to worry about, Just you rest your head
Chorus Asters in the hay field And apples on the ground The last gasp of summer Before it all comes down
Comments
Very cool story and delivery. Love your singing and playing.
This feels like Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, and Townes van Zandt might have written this one in a late night playing and drinking session. It also makes me think about the old Chinese poems where autumn and middle age are represented by the sound of crickets. Those asters and apples set a whole season. I could listen all fall.
