I Won't Cry
by @tcelliott
Liner Notes
For the night my grandmother passed.
Lyrics
I take a step into the night I kiss your cheek and hold your hand real tight
A single tear is running down I don't wipe it As it falls onto the ground
I won't cry tears tonight I won't cry As I say goodbye
I leave the room And don't look back say I'm alright But they know it's just an act
Get in my car And drive away Feeling guilty but knowing I can't stay
I won't cry tears tonight I won't cry As I say goodbye
You once told me you were ready to leave Didn't think you'd be here this long Still your leaving feels wrong
I won't cry tears tonight I won't cry As I say goodbye
I won't cry tears tonight I won't cry As I say goodbye
I won't cry No, I won't cry

This Melody brought up such a feeling of yearning nostalgia. Then I read your liner notes and understood where you were writing this song from. You captured it perfectly.
My condolences to you. You've done a wonderful honor to her with this song.
This one really hits me hard! It wasn’t exactly the night that my grandmother died, but the last time that I visited her and my grand grandfather in their retirement home, I could tell it was getting toward the end. I had gotten a ride from somebody so I couldn’t make my own decisions with respect to staying longer like I wanted to versus leaving, so I had to leave when everybody else left. But I wanted to stay so so bad and then I never saw her alive again. I wanted to cry but was urging myself the same as you do here in your refrain. Welp this song has me crying anyway, all these years later. It’s a good hard one to listen to.
HUGS I think sometimes not crying is the wrong answer but we do what we do to get by.
Alex is right the tension between the sad and happy works real well. Not sure if its a compliment to you but it has an oasis feel to this. ! the emotion really comes through!
I like how the happiness of the tune structure in the verses seems to be fighting the sadness of the lyric and the chorus. Well done.
Lovely and cathartic. Good stuff!
