Liner Notes

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time - to do a track with both my open-back 5-string banjo (played clawhammer style) and my new Irish tenor banjo (played with a pick). But Logic Pro didn't agree - it crashed repeatedly - nor did either banjo (even more tuning issues than usual). So....time to FAWM it and move on.

I had planned to call this "Banjoganza," but after all the things that went wrong while I was recording this I settled on "Banjogeist" instead. A few years ago, someone (@chipwithrow? @andygetch?) announced "Haunted Banjo" as a song prompt. I got a pretty good, non-silly song out of that prompt, but apparently the banjo poltergeist wasn't satisfied with that. It's been waiting all this time to trip me up!

Lovely song despite all the Banjogeist mishaps!

Thank you!

It is the time (I was thinking it was a play on zeitgeist at first) for banjo to make its triumphant return....I see the players all riding on horses into town with determination and grit and apparently, not much Logic. Still, they're going to fix all that's going wrong here.

🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the mental image of a cavalry of heroic banjo players!

Banjogeist is an excellent title, and this is reminding me I brought my banjo up to my office last week but haven't taken her out of the gig bag to write anything yet. Perhaps that's what I'll do tomorrow! This is a fun study in the differences between the two banjos, I think it works despite the challenges!

Well I can certainly understand Logic's qualms about handling 2 banjo tracks at once! It all came out good in the end. I've been blaming the lack of humidity and old strings for tuning issues, maybe I've got poltergeists too!

Logic is definitely not a banjo fan! 🤣
