Liner Notes

My HVAC guy once told me my furnace was held together with "shoestring and bubblegum." It made think of other things that were similarly falling part.

I have a habit of picking a metaphor or analogy and really doing it to death. I think this is one of those times.

Lyrics

it's got all original parts, that's not a good thing so yeah it's fallin apart, more than a couple dings defective from day one, I wish it weren't true no upgrade's gonna save this, we gotta start from new

We've see how fast it crashes, how fragile it can be The founding fathers phoned it in, open the hood and see Held together with

Shoestring and bubble gum, It's falling apart at the seams We're not gonna save this ship, With wd40 and memes shoestring and bubble gum, it doesn't take a pro to see this country's engine died a long long time ago

an alpha version a best, it ain't meant for working folks alotta deferred maintenance, the butt of other nation's jokes we like to think it's special, immune to wear and tear when it comes to real life use the makers just don't care

We've see how fast it crashes, just how fragile it can be The founding fathers phoned it in, open the hood and see It's held together with

shoestring and bubble gum, It's falling apart at the seams We're not gonna save this ship, With wd40 and memes shoestring and bubble gum, it doesn't take a pro to see this country's engine died a long long time ago

it's gonna take some elbow grease, some awkward coalitions to hold it all together, anything short of demolition it'll take more than

shoestring and bubble gum, It's falling apart at the seams We're not gonna save this ship, With wd40 and memes shoestring and bubble gum, it doesn't take a pro to see this country's engine died a long long time ago shoestring and bubblegum, it craps out all the time shoestring and bubblegum, it's way past it's prime shoestring and bubblegum, it wasn't built to last shoestring and bubblegum, it's not up to the task

So danceable! Lots of good lyrics here but I especially love the first line.

Pick it up! Love the ska, and the lyrics are painfully hilarious. How can this song make me smile while singing about the end of our country?

I think we have to smile and dance if we're gonna get through it? Thanks for listening!

WD40 and memes made me actually LOL. What a catchy lead and delightful metaphor to explore such a semiquincentennial shitshow.

thank you!!

I don't think I've ever heard such a happy and infectiously upbeat song about how everything is falling apart. The spring-reverb on that ska guitar is lovely.

I'm laughing at the liner notes, too; doing something to death is so my style...

Thanks for the feedback! When you're a metaphor, everything is a nail, or something like that.

Love this metaphor, great thinking. Overall vibe is also spot on - I especially like the lead guitar lines.

Means a lot coming from you! I probably spent more time on the guitar hook than anything else.

This is the perfect title and lyrics for a fun ska song! This is awesome. The analogy to the nation is perfect! This is like the fifth ska song I've heard in the last 2 days. (I have a half ska song.) Rad radness.

Thanks for listening! Ska is my default; pushing myself to do something BESIDES ska is the personal challenge!
