Nice Climate You Have Here
Liner Notes
Leslie Nielsen would have been 100 years old this week. To celebrate, here's one of his best lines from Fred Wilcox's classic science fiction epic, Forbidden Planet (1956). This will be my penultimate #MovieQuote track, I think.
And I made life difficult for myself with this one, because I didn't just dig out my old Ibanez #fretless-bass, I also fired up my Moog Etherwave #Theremin. Who needs to hit the notes bang on, right? #Ambient goodness incoming...
Lyrics
Adams: This is, er, no offence, but—you are a robot, aren't you? Robby: That is correct, sir. For your convenience, I am monitored to respond to the name "Robby."
Adams: Nice climate you have here. High oxygen content. Robby: I rarely use it myself, sir. It promotes rust.

The theremin sounds great against the dark ambient keys. Very spacey and slightly unsettling! I like the sliding bass and additional keys at the end as well. Atmospheric!
Only during FAWM would it be perfectly normal to read the phrase "I also fired up my Moog Etherwave theremin" and not bat an eye. And can I just say that said MET sounds fantastic in this. Really adds to the build-up of mystery and awe, which were what sc-fi always used to be about for me. That sense of WOW, ANOTHER PLANET! IMAGINE WHAT THAT'S LIKE! Other worlds are so common in media now we hardly think of it, but you rediscovered that feeling brilliantly in this.
Ha ha good quote. love that theremin sound and the build around it. you start to see the video in your head - this is high class cinematic music,
I don't think it would be theremin, if all the notes are bang on. Human meets robot = theremin. Nicely panned out sounds. Really enjoyed this
Such a cool, spacey cinematic piece. The theremin wobble gives it that perfect retro sci fi tension, and the fretless bass adds a lovely depth underneath. The spoken quote works brilliantly in this setting too. It really feels like a lost soundtrack cue from a 50s film.
Leslie Nielsen, theremin, fretless bass = immediately press play! And this is absolutely beautiful.
I mean, how could I not click on a song with the tags 'theremin' and 'fretless bass'? And this does not disappoint! The whole thing is so spooky, entirely befitting the movie quote (I keep expecting him to say, 'nice climate here, be a shame if something happened to it!' but maybe that's just me Love that ending with the climbing progression, this us all so very cool.
Always a treat to listen to your songs. Exquisite sounds. Even the theremin hits the notes it's supposed to. 😁
This ... makes me feel unexpectedly ... young?! Leslie Nielsen, I thought, yeah, he's the guy from Naked G... - wait, what? Forbidden Planet?? He had a career before that???
This is so intense! The wobble of the theremin looking for the right note is really cool sounding. Has a nice vintage sci-fi feel to it but with some modern pazazz.
Compelling sound, awesome tribute ~ love it!
This is epic. Also, the fretless bass sounds so nice. Listening to this worked better than my coffee; now I am up and relaxed. Thanks for that!
beautiful! appropriately spacey tones, especially with that ethereal theremin! the bass gives the soundscape a nice... humanized? grounding to contrast with the theremin and ambient pads. humans, surrounded by fantastical technology, bearing witness to never-before-seen expanses of the stars
Listened to this a couple times. Didn't want the feeling to end. Really great soundscape!
