Liner Notes

#piano #ballad Not sure how I feel about this one. But I liked the prechorus enough to keep going with it. More of "song of reassurance"/therapy song for me. Does anyone else feel like they have a certain song structure, phrases, melodic turns that keep showing up that can be hard to break out of? And you start feeling tired of your own stuff? Yup, feeling that AND also had some major boundary work revisit me this week. Here's to being a work in progress!

Lyrics

When tomorrow isn’t better Than the days that came before You are not sure if you’re moving Or pacing the same old floor

Stuck inside the corners of your mind All is fallow in the garden Tried to leave that old devil behind But he caught up, he’s begging your pardon

If all of you says no, why do you nod yes anyway? Like an earworm you can’t shake, a tired song that’s overplayed It’s overstayed its welcome and you’re running out of time Girl, you only have one life

When you’re right back where you started Feeling so small again Trying to break out of these patterns But you can’t see the exit yet

Prechorus

Chorus

It's another reason why collaborating can be so exhilarating especially when I send an idea to someone like you and it comes back with things I would never have thought of.

Definitely have that feeling a lot of following the same patterns a lot and I've been trying to find different starting points like a drum loop or sample or perhaps a different instrument as a starter. But this is a lovely song Rachel. sounds like you started with that initial melody on the piano. My problem is often making things too complicated so I'm hoping my next song attempt will be simpler and based on fewer changes. Restriction sometimes helps to encourage us to be creative don't you think.

Cheers indeed to works in progress and being ok with that! This is a beautiful vocal delivery and soft piano accompaniment, you are so easy to listen to!

I definitely have that feeling about a lot of my songs (for me, it’s “oh, another song in G with a similar melody and the same moves happening in chorus and bridge!”). Whether or not you’re being derivative of Rachel Eve, you have created a lovely song here. Oh, and the lyrics are so relatable. “If all of you says no, why do you say yes anyway?” I have been there! Here’s to being a work in progress!

I can hear both musically and lyrically how this is a song of reassurance for yourself. And one you should, I think, be proud of. We're all just works in progress. You rock! Never forget.
