#acoustic #folkrock Even though it was my own skirmish, I had no ideas for gloves — but then I imagined a place where handing you the gloves meant you were hired. Lots of anachronisms here.

Lyrics

As a boy I worked down at the factory I just hung around till they handed the gloves to me Work came in fits and starts you never knew Till the foreman called out that there was more to do

Jump up and put on your gloves You should be working Yeah (3 x) Again

I had the fire in me I could go all day Those older guys told me to sit down and save my energy You might as well learn now when you have to rest Pretty soon they’ll put you to the test

(repeat chorus)

There is a dreariness captured in the lyrics. It’s like all we are is work. Somehow, the melody seems like a lost Pink Floyd song to me. Thanks for the skirmish idea!

Words of wisdom! I had the same kind of exprience working contruction. I remember even the accent with wich I was offered a pair of gloves.

First day at work sentiment captured in one symbol and song. Great take on the prompt. Lot of people will relate to this. I think my fav is the title: you should be working! #StoryOfOurLives!

I like the story that inspired this write, so ‘of it’s time’ it really made me smile. I wish some things were that straightforward these days. Really lovely listen and thanks for the prompt

Great evocation of a particular time. Though, sad to say, the days of short term hires (with no promise of anything permanent) are definitely back.

Oh this brings back memories of my stints as an electrician in Summer Shut-Downs - rewiring machines or else up in the rafters 20 feet above the shop floor - three points of contact - repairing the electrical grid. The old guys also told me to slow down and electrically isolated gloves were an essential part of the job.
