So, whattaya know for sure?

Liner Notes
An older fellow I used to work with would greet me smiling with "So, whattaya know for sure?" Until one day he didn't
...he passed away in his sleep the night before heart attack I was told.
Lyrics
Every morning, he’d greet me, “So, whattaya know for sure?” Stories spun like old memories, Made the days feel pure.
Tales of family dinners, Bowling scores we’d boast, Laughter filled the break room, He was the one I’d toast.
But one day he didn’t show, Empty seat, silence fell, Questions burned inside of me, In a rusty, angry shell.
“So, whattaya know for sure?” I screamed into the air, Words unspoken lingered, Life just doesn’t care.
Days drag on, I miss him, His wisdom in the grind, I’m left here holding stories, That haunt my restless mind.
So, whattaya know for sure, When the light starts to fade? Anger boils in my heart, While the memories cascade.
Every “So, whattaya know for sure?” Is a question I still ask, But the answers feel hollow, Without him, it’s a mask.

He sounds like a a great guy! I love that that one line says so much. Wonderful tribute!
This one touched me. Grieving acquaintanceship. And that phrase Whattaya know for sure? is such a reflection on life and incertainty. One of my Covid losses was all the old people I used to see at the YMCA pool. We all went away and most of them never came back.
