Sometimes You Swerve
Skirmish: Chocolate (@ajna1960)Liner Notes
8:30am: Found the skirmish for #chocolate with 8 minutes to go. Coming in hot (late) by posting this at 13 past the hour. Maybe needs a third verse? Or a sweet touch on the bridge?
Update 7:25pm Draft one of melody demoed. It’s not where I want it yet. I dunno. I feel like some of this melody I’ve written before.

Lyrics
V1 Summer I turned fifteen, Driver's Ed was in a trailer Back of school, around the corner from the zoo Where the peacocks could escape Sit above us in the trees And scream out cautions overhead like we were fools, I was a fool And if I recall correctly, so were you
CHORUS: Slamming dishes under water in the double sink Tilt my head a little more to take a longer drink Dig the chocolate with the bloom out of the cabinet Tell myself it isn't time, we haven't got there yet But I'm stressing as you're pressing Every nerve Sometimes you drive straight through the obstacle Sometimes you swerve, sometimes you swerve
V2 Rarely on the road I see a ghosty little car White Citation -- that was your ride way back then I could only drive a stick If we didn't go too far And you were always pushing me to get back in I got back in I don't know why we thought that we could win
BRIDGE: I tried not to make left turns You thought you were right We could've stopped -- the signs were more than clear Kept rolling through them, barely looking Turn the heater up Neither one of us was ever fit to steer

Thank you to my lyrics-only commenters on “Sometimes You Swerve.” There is now a first attempt at melody demo posted. @ajna1960 @acousticmaddie @atam94 @musicsongwriter @feb21sundari @hmstreetteam
Very nice lyric. I couldn't help wondering throughout if the whole was a metaphor for a very stormy relationship that was basically sound.
I think it absolutely could be! It's another song in which I'm writing from an alternate reality -- real memories that end up a different place than they have in reality. They could be okay, and they also might not be, same as when there's a deer in the road in front of your car...
Thanks for the insightful comment. :)
Cool lyric and great job in that short amount of time. I can feel the frustration in the lyrics and the meotional press many of us tend to put on ourself in the every day life. Well done
Thanks for reading through "Sometimes You Swerve" I am looking forward to returning to it.
ooh very nice!! The bridge lyrics are great!
Thank you! I’ve written a somewhat related lyric in another song, but different enough, I think.
Creative lyrics and take on the prompt. I don't think they need more lines. I hope you demo them.
Thank you very much for the encouragement on my “chocolate” prompt song!
That sounds like an exciting story. I don't understand the part about the chocolate ring; does it really exist? Is it a donut? ...or a figment of the imagination?
Hmmm... There's no chocolate ring. "The chocolate with the bloom" in the cabinet is just old chocolate ("bloom" is a white coating that surfaces on old chocolate) that this narrator is stress eating, wondering if her marriage is doomed. But good feedback for me to know that's confusing in translation, thanks for reading and commenting! ;)
Very colorful narrative, but foreboding, like someone is about to drive off a cliff. Kind of a ghost story feeling.
Thank you! I think the couple in this song ARE quite near a cliff, and whether they are going to drive off or not is a good question.
Oh this brings back memories of Drivers Ed class. I like how the driving story alternates with a kitchen scene leaving a bit of mystery.
