Nearest book to hand was Richard Osman's The Impossible Fortune, a fine book. Anyway, there is a line "You told a small lie, not a big one..." which is where I started and then it just took a dark turn.

Lyrics

You told a small lie, not a big one Well that’s a relief I don’t know if I could carry on like this Some secrets will stay buried in the ground I’m just so happy to have found you

I’ll change my ways, if that’s what you want So that’s a big lie, but I promise I’ll try We’ll ignore the elephant in the room I twist the truth, like you wear costumes

I don’t do it ‘cause I want to I do it ‘cause I need the cash It’s never personal you see All I do is take out the trash

Every single victim deserves it I always check before I take the job Then I choose a method which fits Make the execution fit the crime

So turn away, there’s nothing more to say I don’t feel guilty for my work I just want you to understand You won’t be marrying a postal clerk

I love your voice and playing! I liked the line you started with and you took it in a unique direction.

There is a poem of Leonard Cohen's called "Description of Adolf Eichmann" - It is a description of a perfectly ordinary, average guy. It ends "What did you expect talons, green saliva....?

This song has a similar feel. That calm, pleasant singing voice just confirming his dark side, as if it was just "I've had a nice day, dear." 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Wow such a wholesome song that came out of this skirmish. I really vibe with this. Your voice of course is awesome. You have such a way of make every lyrics come to life in a storytelling way. I would love to listen to an audiobook with you to.

I was reveling in the it’s-complicated narrative almost hidden in the simple music.
