Skirmish: Timeline of the Far Futur... (@mardeycranbleson)Liner Notes
Well, it took the full hour just to write some dystopian lyrics, and I probably won't get the music tonight, but enjoy! #skirmish #time #future #electronic #disco #dance #spacerock #ClevelandRocks . As I was writing this, Zager and Evan's "In the Year 2525" kept running through my head - and, boy, were they wrong about how long until machines took over. Though, #noAI for this song. UPDATE demo now posted! I wanted it to sound like something from the far future, but that got weird and unlistenable. So pretend that in 3535 there's a revival of 80's synth pop with robotic backup vocals. And know that kotos will be eternal.
Lyrics
Where Should We Vacation This Year? (c) 2026 raspberry33 (Timeline of the Future Skirmish) Verse: Sagittarious Galaxy is so nice halfway through the decade Though the Milky Way is steadily invading We can be there in no time now that clocks have slowed The interstellar black hole allows trading
The earth is still inhabitable, though not for humans Eukaryotic life is looking grim The zoos are full of specimens on life support Though in the end, the viruses will win.
Chorus: Welcome… to the future It’s so unlikely that we still survive But we’ve managed to evade extinction The rocket’s fueled, let’s take it for a drive
Verse: Cleveland still rocks, though it’s now underwater Niagara Falls is just a memory The Greenland ice has raised the sea by so many meters The Berkshires are now beachfront property
Calisto resonates now with Ganymede and Europa With Jupiter setting a disruptive pace We can’t go to that quadrant of the galaxy Too many disappear without a trace
CHORUS
(Bridge) Exodium and Terminus once predicted Machines would rule by 5555 Turns out that they were badly mistaken About how soon AI would learn to drive (Though HAL in 2001 should have been a hint – not to mention Asimov)
Verse: Polaris lost its role as the Northern Pole star Antares and Betelgeuse are gone The Sahara Desert’s now become the new Hawaii And look south now, if you want to see the dawn.
CHORUS
Outro: To my dismay, proton decay Has sealed the deal for us all. You can't argue with time, gravity or entropy So, where should we vacation this year?

Thanks!! I've been working on a demo and finally came up with something spacey but danceable. With robot voices! I'm predicting an 1980 synth pop revival in 3930. MP3 just posted a few minutes ago. https://fawm.org/songs/322972
love the fatalistic / optimistic tone and enjoyed all the big words! eukaryotic life is looking grim resonated with me, a cool line 😁thanks for joining
Interesting. A lot of big words that I didn’t look up. I like how Cleveland still rocks and the clocks have slowed down.
Proton decay is the clincher for the physical universe, so nice way to end.
Thanks! I'd have to look up Exordium, too - it was the subtitle for Zager & Evan's song "In the Year 2525" which is another dystopian portrayal of the future. Exordium (beginning) and Exodium (conclusion) are archaic terms, though there's a sci-fi game by the latter name. And I didn't notice my typo until now...oh well. Asimov is a science fiction writer who proposed rules of robotics; rule #1 is a robot may not injure a human or, through inaction, allow a human to come to harm. Prescient, but we may have already blown past that dictum! The rest of the strange words are stars/planets/moons (thank you, Wikipedia) and HAL is the evil computer from 2001 (but you knew that!)
Amazing writing- I’m not as up to date on sci fi and the cosmos as I could be, but got the gist of the dystopian world, while keeping the title in mind. The outro sums it up nicely- Lyrics are great! Some spacey sounding synth would sound about right.
