Lyrics
When I look out past the horizon line Across this wide‑open land of plenty I settle back and breathe it in Rockin’ with the rhythm of the katydid’s chant Letting the good Lord’s handiwork Wash over every thought I’ve carried
I wonder who I’ve been, who I’m becoming Under this cool July moon Giving us a little mercy From that long, hard summer heat It’s the kind of night that slows you down Till your heartbeat matches the breeze
If you’ve never been here, you’ll never understand James Robert twangin’ out a high lonesome stand Pluckin’ rubber bands like a front porch mandolin Keeping time so sweet, it feels heaven‑sent
Preach it, preacher man Preach, preach, preach Tell it straight and let it burn Leave the watered down talk For Uncle Ed’s old coffee pot Bring the fire, bring the truth Being good just ain’t good enough
Hear the amens and hallelujahs in the air Hallelujah, Amen Amen, Hallelujah Ringing out across the hills For every wandering soul to hear
Mary Lou slappin’ time with Granny’s spoons Tappin’ out a rhythm older than the pines Carl on the slide, letting steel notes cry Like a Sunday morning sunrise Roadies hummin’ harmony Just happy to be along for the ride
And here we wait, hearts wide open For those pearly gates someday Tap‑tap‑tappin’ to the old gospel tunes ’Cause even out here in the quiet You can feel the Spirit movin’ Like a soft bluegrass revival Rolling through the night

I can totally visualize EVERYTHING in each stanza. You've got a real gift for writing lyrics. I also appreciate that most of this reads down as prose. I read them and then spoke them as i read them... this is really good! Well done!
Thanks for the positive feedback.
As a southerner, this feels very southern in such an authentic way. I really love how specific the lyrics are, it makes it seem super genuine
Thanks.
i love your lyrics for this and i'd be really curious to see how it comes to life. i love the near-ish rhymes and ways you complemented words together, i can definitely start feeling a melody. nice job!
Thanks
I'm ashamed to say all I known of the South in the USA is from books and movies, so all these wonderful details really brought it alive for me. Very evocative, very lyrical. "It's the kind of night that slows you down till your heartbeat matches the breeze" is a superb line.
