Train Never Comes (c) Sean McGaughey February 8, 2026

The 909 doesn't stop here anymore The station has long been torn down Developers came andtore up the tracks Thetrain never comes to this town

CHO Precious few pickups roll through these days No Cowboys are out on the range At night you can hear the coyotes howl Butnever the whistle of atrain

The kids have all moved into the city They no longer wish to be pioneers Farmland is turning back into grassland Antelope have been seen back this year

CHO Precious few pickups roll through these days No Cowboys are out on the range At night you can hear the coyotes howl Butnever the whistle of atrain

They're talking about bringingback the the buffalo For millenia they ruled the plains But man killed them off in forty oddyears Then did the same same with the trains

CHO Precious few pickups roll through these days. No Cowboys are out on the range At night you can hear the coyotes howl But Never the whistle of atrain No Never the whistle of atrain

My baby said she's travelin on the one after 909. I really enjoyed hearing that number.

Very well done, love the chords, the progression, the vibe, singing. All muy bein! And well produced! Brovo Mr.Tape!

Train travel is still my favourite method of transport when vacationing. The nostalgic view of long train journeys through backwoods towns in Canada is sadly the norm now. Great lament, made me think about days gone by.

The melody of the verses was especially lovely. The minor chords gave it the melancholy feel it needed. Nice write!

@gm7

I feel your sadness over the 909 no longer running. Same thing happen here in the early nineties and I do miss the sound of a train in evening. A Great lament !

This sets such a historical perspective. Time moves on. Nice chorus and interesting guitar playing. Well done one take recording.

Love this guitar groove! I'm partial to Em, so I love this sound, of course, but also...I love the pairing of the experience of seeing the natural world come back into a pace with noticing the loss of the human community. I feel you do a marvelous job of holding both in neutral tandem, passing no judgment, but observing the loneliness of each.

I like the buffalo/train analogy. That really anchors this lovely elegy.

My sort of story maybe you need to collab with Tjeff and I as we do these every year. These places are of a time passed a bit like me these days. Great trad folky feel to this - This is a beauty Sean

Good one Sean. A bunch of the things mentioned connected to me in this. 909...ref to the Beatles song? There has been a migration to the cities. I feel nostalgic sad about that. And I rarely hear train whistles when as a kid I heard lots. Cowboys...I read a guy in the Forum started a Cowboy Song challenge. Flag it! Maybe that's what #western is....

Yes, I was referring to THAT 909.

Quite a picturesque and wistful write...the march of time and so-called "progress" that sometimes doesn't end up where they wanted to go. "Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance...everybody thinks it's true" - Paul Simon

Great story being told here of the decay of an area and a way of life. I really like the lyrics "But man killed them off in forty-odd years/Then did the same with the trains." I enjoyed my listen.
