A Hole Where the Daydream Used to Be

Liner Notes
There's nothing remotely original about this, but after "Chud" I thought I'd get back to more conventional songwriting, so I came up with the chords and words yesterday morning sitting on the sofa with my guitar. No software necessary! I realise now that even the title sounds like a line from "Elephant Stone". Whatever, it gave me an excuse to do some jangly widdling which was quite fun.
The dreaded FAWM sniffles have hit and I'm currently knee-deep in snot. Vocals will need a redo when I'm less bunged up. Probably the mix needs to be unsquished quite a lot too.
Lyrics
That thing she did She did for me Or so it seemed Maybe I didn't even figure In that equation
You show me yours I'll show you mine Every reason undermined My second guessing's Left me at the station
The future now is haunting me All the possibilities That will never be reality There's a hole where the daydream used to be
My rational brain's been fighting It's become an expert hiding What I feel Each time you walk into the room
I read between the lines Of some inconsequential sign I refuse to see the flaws That make you human
The future now is haunting me All the possibilities That will never be reality There's a hole where the daydream used to be

I wish there was more of this sort of stuff on FAWM! Don't worry about your vocals, they sound glorious to me. Edwin Collins never sounded as good as you. Your choice of words on the chorus is getting me going too, I love being a bit overwhelmed by all the good things happening at once. Oh! And perfect coda too
Deliciously jangly! IRS-era REM vibes for sure, but with intelligible words. This is one of those songs when I don't want to pick out parts or instruments, I just loved listening to it as a whole so much, I pressed play again. A FAWM taboo!
This is a HECK of a chorus. Love the guitars on this, especially in the lead up to the verses. The drums on the second verse make me happy.
All this and relatable as hell lyric! Great work on this one 😀
Love the jangly guitar and very cool lyrics. This is tops!
"The future now is haunting me" is a great line. The opening guitar is infectiously jangly, I want to be 19 again and dancing to this in some bar at 2am.
The lyrical hook is absolutely brilliant. The jangly guitars, the emotionally detached vocals, the absolute payoff of the premise. This whole production is a DeLorean ride back to the '80s.
The title already promised a good song and you bring it. Perfect jangly indie pop with great melodic sense. I really dig the sound.
Oh yes! This has all that I look for. The title and chorus are perfect! The rhythm and tone are perfect. The bass drum breakdown on V2. Its like the best pop rock indie sound of the 80s. Absolutely beautiful. Great job.
Hell yeah jangles! That's such a charmingly trebly guitar sound and the bass fills out the space underneath it so nicely. The instrumental coda gets into more twinkly emo territory in a way that feels very natural, where jangly worlds meet.
