@wobyen on bass @hammondaegs on drums

This started out as a folk song, but my best friend Brian challenged me to write a song that didn't sound depressing. I never thought I'd write a rock song, but I got an electric guitar now and, way more importantly, two infuriatingly talented neighbors that can play bass and drums.

Lyrics

The trunk is loaded in the drive the playlists stay the same steam from coffee fills the air The rituals have never changed

old familiar highway signs new strings on my guitar And it hasn’t even registered But by now I’ve travelled pretty far

And The morning light it stays the same No the mountain hasn’t changed for me at all sometimes I almost think I hear my name But I know it’s just the wind that called

verses rise into the air we knew these chords when we were young all the melodies will reappear not a chorus left unsung

through the oak and evergreen a company of green and gold another breath among mountain’s breeze another story to be told

and the earth will make familiar sounds and the line of trees will stand above it all But I’ll stop just a short of reaching out Cuz I know it’s just the wind that called

And The morning light it stays the same No the mountain hasn’t changed for me at all sometimes I almost think I hear my name But I know it’s just the wind that called

so great!!! raw energy, terrific dynamics, vocals wonderful - anthemic chorus!

I love this chorus. I think "No the mountain hasn’t changed for me at all" is an amazing emphasis and the two lines that follow are perfect.

Digging the folk influence of having space and interludes between verses and not being obligated to wear out the welcome of the chorus. Repetition of "just the wind that called" works so well for me as a listener.

Great to hear that a band can put itself together so well for the purpose!

thank you so much @elainedimasi! this is so cool, it wasn't a conscious choice to have the structure of the song be folk influenced in this way, but pointing that out is giving me so much to think about going forward. I really appreciate your kind review, thanks again!

ooh love this! the lyrics have such beautiful imagery and i really like how the vocals stand out on their own. i also like the guitar riffs infused throughout. and your diction is great. harmonies! so good.

I very much appreciate your kind and thoughtful review, @sadcoolgirl! Thank you!

How'd you record this (I hear 2 guitars) - sounds live? Playing electric can be fun - and easier on the fingers, too! Fun rocking song!

Thanks @mikeb! yeah this one was a real Frankenstein of a song. 2 mics in a big garage for the drums, a mic pointed at my amp in a closet for the guitars, different mic and closet for the vocals, and my other neighbor sent me his bass track. Getting everything synced was a challenge. and yes, so much easier on the fingers! I might be converted.
