thank you to @abudabard12514 who gave me the inspiration for this song by saying that our musical contributions are the flowers sprouting from the concrete! #girlwithguitar #folk #protest
Lyrics
Sometimes when I look out all I see is grey The sun never felt so far away It can be hard to get up, carry on and face the day When the world is bleeding, and I am feeling a permanent malaise
There’s a small army of lovers and they’re bound together Sowing seeds of change and planting avenues of colour There’s a small army and they’ve vowed to make a better world So I’ll be up all night, I’ll be up all night Growing flowers until daylight
Sometimes in the thick of it, I can’t see the wood for the trees My actions and my offerings don’t feel like much to me But when we put together all our songs and works of art We’ll feel the ground quake under our feet as the buds shoot through the mud
We’re a small army of lovers and we’re bound together Sowing seeds of change and planting avenues of colour We’re a small army and we’ve vowed to make a better world So, I’ll be up all night, I’ll be up all night Growing flowers until daylight
Growing flowers, they will bloom Growing flowers, they will bloom Growing flowers, they will bloom Growing flowers, they will bloom

What a delight this lyric is and the music is just perfect for it. Let's keep growing flowers, OK?
Lovely. Your beautiful melody fits the hopeful tone of the song so well. The flow of lyrics and rhymes is really satisfying (Sometimes in the thick of it, I can’t see the wood for the trees/My actions and my offerings don’t feel like much to me is a great couplet!). And I love the catchy rhythm of "So I’ll be up all night, I’ll be up all night/Growing flowers until daylight" - that is an earworm!
Very inspiring! It's got such a hopeful message. I enjoyed all the descriptions, so uniquely written and delivered. Your vocal really conveys that hopeful spirit so beautifully!
Never felt part of an army before. Changing the world one song at a time...I like the idea ! Very encouraging.
the repeated line at the end works really well, hopeful and powerful
o this is so incredible serene. an army of lovers 🥹🥹🥹 and they are here for us! very hopefull, this song feels like a big colourfull hug
Beautiful and hopeful. Love these lyrics. Wonderfully performed, per usual…This is the kind of song that needs to be heard.
Hugely inspiring stuff! Such a strong and compelling central metaphor. The bit where we all put our songs together and cause the earth to shake - a proper punch the air moment. Love the use of the word ‘malaise’ too :)
lovely performance as ever, i was captivated by the little breaks on some words, so tastefully peppered through it. I would say this goes in the #protest tag too, flower power resistance to the bleak grey world in essence if not straight-up politically. Lovely melody and flowy bounce🌻
i Love the way you are not bound by structure - you find a way to sing whatever you write by strength and skill of you vocal range , Very good song - I is a good inspirational statement
You done it.again, Serene. Yay! Thanks so much.
👏👏👏 Such smooth, natural phrasing. It feels very comfortable and easy to listen to.
Already in that first line you lift me up and make me want to embrace the day and my life. What a perfect example of the way music can soothe and unite and give us a home in the world. The tripping along rhythm of the words sits so naturally inside the music. Also this morning my phone showed me a picture I’d taken of a field of bright blue bachelor buttons that grew in the bare dirt after we had our septic system dug up and cleaned out. They were just here for one season, and I wasn’t even sure if I had really scattered the seeds I though I should write a song about that, but now I see you already did. I love the simple repetition of the chorus line. I’ll be singing it all through this foggy day.
