Liner Notes

The easier and better my new voice becomes the easier and more confidence I gain with my old voice as well. This is the first song I've put out that I actually feel kinda good about. Like. It's motivating. This is probably the first time this FAWM that I haven't considered just giving up because of my voice. It's not great... but it's getting better. I think I'm going to need to do a lot of duet style stuff until my new voice gets to a point where it can carry a song by itself.

Used to be a Christian. Song is a play off of the sarcastic taunting Elijah used against the followers of Baal in that particular Bible story. Just, y'know, turned back around at the Christian god.

I'm forcing myself to find something about each song that I like so I'm not overly negative.

I LIKE: I like that I'm able to femvoice with less tension now. I like that I'm actually on beat, and I like the little bits where the nerves finally go away and I get little peeks at vibrato.

I like the tone of my mascvoice at a lot of parts, even though I may have deleted some better takes because "I'll totally get it EVEN BETTER next time". Note to self: Don't delete ANY takes until you're done the song.

Lyrics

(Verse 1) Hello god, it's been a while since we've spoken I hope this song finds you well I've lost count of the rules your followers have broken I fear they're all going straight to hell

(Chorus) Maybe you're sleeping Maybe you're busy Maybe you're traveling Or contemplating if you exist But if you're the real god, it should be easy to get your attention.

(Verse 2) Hello god, I miss having you around The best imaginary friend I ever had I miss being able to just tell you all my problems And you ignoring me... Ha! Good times.

(Chorus) Maybe you're sleeping Maybe you're busy Maybe you're traveling Or contemplating if you exist But if you're the real god, it should be easy to get your attention.

(Verse 3) Hello god, I'm really scared of death I know you've got this great deal on salvation I'd love to take you up on your offer Before your followers come to kill me

(Bridge) Hello god, why don't you ever write back? You're just another typical deadbeat dad This will be my final letter So,.. ... Goodbye

(Chorus) Maybe you're sleeping Maybe you're busy Maybe you're traveling Or contemplating if you exist But if you're the real god, it should be easy to get your attention.

Wow, Gwen - I like how these voices can stand in for the parts of one self (Internal family systems) or the piece that used to believe, the piece that would still like to, and the piece that has had about enough thank you very much. One thing i noticed was how I wanted that “it should be” to morph into “shouldn’t it be easier” one time. Maybe after those other questions and the final letter. I’m reading a book about raising kids that talks about how the baby self never wants to disengage from the parents and tantrums are ways to stay connected. That made me think about this song in that context of shouting I don’t believe as a way to stay in contact. So glad you (ya’ll) are singing again. Great yo hear your voices.

I love this turn-around of insult! Fantastic guitar, perfectly dark. The duet is so cool!!! Your femvoice is great! You convey the emotions vocally really well. I especially loved the delivery of "I miss having you around" and "you're just another typical deadbeat dad". Really amazing work!

Very interesting and slightly disturbing, in a good way! I enjoyed the journey this tune took me on.
