Liner Notes

Another song where the meaning unfurled as I wrote it. The ghosts are you and me. Thanks for listening!

Lyrics

Walls don’t hold him in He’s just a ghost, he's just a ghost Don’t try to talk to him, don’t try to talk He's just a ghost, he's just a ghost

He used to be a simple man He used to be better than the rest Let’s make a toast He's just a ghost, he's just a ghost

Is that a shadow? Was that the wind? It's just a ghost, it's just a ghost Don't be afraid It’s just a dream He's just a ghost, he's just a ghost

Don't try to laugh Don’t dare to scream You’ll never know Or so it seems Where is he now Where has he been? He’ll never boast He’s just a ghost

Was that your sin You hid within? You're just a ghost, you're just a ghost

Very enigmatic lyrics and I, too, like the pared down folky sound to this song. Nice solution to the skirmish, not what you might expect.

I love what you did with the skirmish. I enjoyed listening to the song and reading the lyrics. :)

I dig how you worked the repeat, “He’s just a ghost. He’s just a ghost” into the vocal melody and then you also played it in the guitar solo. The song is very folky sounding in a great way… a vintage way. Nicely done!

Lovely upbeat tune, with a haunting vibe in that final refrain. Really enjoyed listening to this!

i love that you seem to be getting so much out of the skirmish and weekly challenge prompts! this is a nice fun folky tune. the “ghost” imagery goes along quite well with the almost goth-country(?) song structure.

and i’m a sucker for “lyrically through-composed” things in the sense that there’s a clear refrain, but it evolves or changes context as the song unfolds like this!

(i’ll be honest, though: when i saw the line "Let’s make a toast” all i could think of was “dancing toast”) 😆

Thanks! I'll have to write a dancing toast song before this is all over...
