#oldtime #children song #talltale #guitar #vocals #banjolin #folk I was looking to write something fun that my 4 yo granddaughter might like. I wanted to use my 1922 Gibson mandolin/banjo (banjolin) because so many have mentioned they really like it. I decided to visit the land of tall tales and chose an old timey sound. I cast a bullfrog and a bee in the starring roles. I hope you enjoy.
Lyrics
How That Frog Got in That Tree
I’ll tell you all a story, how it was told to me ‘Bout a big old bullfrog, how it landed in a tree. Now you may think I’m fibbing, but my buddy swore to me... He saw the whole thing happen, how that frog got in that tree.
Was on a cloudy morning, that bullfrog saw a bee The bee buzzed, ”look at that, such a sight to see”. The bullfrog croaked, ”what the heck you seeing, buzzy bee?” Bee buzzed back, “you won’t believe, climb that tree to see.”
The frog croaked back, “How?, I can’t hardly jump, I’d be so dang lucky to get up on that stump.” The bee buzzed back, “Never mind, if you won’t even try. But if you’d put your mind to it, maybe you could fly.”
So that’s the whole dang story, how it was told to me. ‘Bout a big old bullfrog, how it landed in a tree. Now if you think I’m fibbing, my buddy swore to me... He saw the whole thing happen, how that frog got in that tree.

A charming little animal story. I like how you've implemented it, both the instrumentation and the text with its repetitions and continuations.
This is a lovely song and I hope your granddaughter enjoys it. It would be nice if you could push up the volume of the instruments during the instrumental sections and then bring them back down when vocal comes in. I was turning up the volume so I could hear them more clearly and then when the vocal came in it was too loud.
The banjolin indeed sounds great, as do your lively, whimsical vocals. I really like how gentle and charming it all is, and like all the best children's songs, adults (or at least this adult) can enjoy the tunefulness and good humor just as much as the little ones. It's just so much fun, performed with such utter good humor!
