Liner Notes

My attempt at the bass-only challenge someone put out there during the first week! Last night, we had our monthly extended family dinner at my grandpa's house. We were unpleasantly interrupted by a barrage of emergency vehicles, as the huge barn across the street had become engulfed in flames (thankfully with no people or animals inside). I was quite inspired by how we all, as the "village" of parent helpers, came together to help my three-year-old cousin process what was going on rather than trying to shield it from him; however, I couldn't help but feel that us asking so many constructive questions ("what kind of lights do you see? How many firefighters are there?") might have been a bit surreal for his young brain. I recorded a brief loop that felt like its ever-increasing rhythmic language mirrored the urgency of such a situation perfectly, I ended up trying to convey that through a bunch of different weird bass/vocal techniques, including pitching my falsetto down an octave and then formant shifting it back up to its natural frequency range. #bass #loops #experimental #lowpassfilters

Lyrics

What kind of lights do you see? Do you see blue, or do you see green? Are there three jackets of yellow, or four? Do you think the ceiling will be safe? the floor? How many miles away do you think that hose is from? What do you think they'll do when they're all done?

The experimental, free-flowing, chaotic vibe draws me in. The music captures the wild energy of a fire and all the events surrounding it, while the vocals provide a foundation to occupy the mind from spiraling. Writing a song from a child's POV is something I've never done but it's a great idea.

This is so trippy. I think you've effectively conveyed how a surreal experience like this might feel to a tiny person's brain both now and in their memories years later. Kinda of a terrifying version of the way the grown-ups talk in Peanuts. Cool take on the bass only challenge.
