Skirmish: Breakthrough (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
I actually really like this song, but not this recording...maybe it's a 1+1 in its heart. I saw Robin's skirmish, but didn't do a skirmish, just ran off with the idea at a later date, but appreciate the inspiration.
Lyrics
Break Through by Tammy Jann © 2026
Trapped within four brick walls shout and cry, noone answers your calls the past pours down a chilling rain plays in your head a gain and again
chorus What does it take to escape to a place and start anew is there a way a better day to finally break through
Windows still leave you blind because our soul can never find a way to imagine an open door confusion's building more and more
Bridge Beat down the walls they were never there at all your heart, mind and soul need to finally let go Beat down the walls Love yourself and believe you can set yourself free

Like the way that you have built the tension between the transitions by putting the harmonies on the 2nd half of the verses and last line of the choruses.
Intriguing that there is a chilled relaxed feeling to the track which is juxtaposed to the narrative of a struggle to break free
What a lovely sound !! You are an incredible folk singer ! I very much enjoyed this!
I like the repeat on again! Soaring vocal and pretty melody! All the elements of a classic song! could slip into one of those hits albums easily
Oooooweeee, those vocal harmonies are so nice in my ears!
Tammy, so nice to hear your pretty vocals. I enjoyed the vocal melody and how the message offers hope and resilience. And I like how you take time to settle on specific words. There's some fine descriptive lines in the lyric.
I love hearing your music and voice again. Lyrics are compelling, too.
Pretty chorus. The repeated phrases are great with the first time going up on the melody and the second time going lower. Agree that you could do without the rhythm track to allow some natural tempo changes.
Love the melody , especially the end of the ends of the verses and those beautiful melodies on the lines: Again and again, and, More and more. I love the hopeful and upbeat message and the way you tell the story. The bridge is my favorite part of the lyrics! I love reading it and hearing that sweet vocal and harmony. Wonderful job and I think the recording fine, BTW!!
Love the repeated “again and again”, not just conceptually but melodically too. This is such a confident melody, stronger lines alternating with more subtle lines. I especially like the tension in the melody of the third line that resolves up to that strong note on the last word, and nicely sets up stronger lines again. “Windows still leave you blind “ is a great line!
Pleasant summer-night tune, I like how the drum machine adds a subtle flavor and rhythm without overwhelming the folksy nature of the track; those jazzy bossa nova chords reminds me of something from Joni Mitchell or Norah Jones!
This really resonates with me. Battles with walls that are not there at all.
This is very pretty indeed. The vocals are lovely. Very clear and crisp. The shift to the quicker lyrics is cool, and the ends of the verses. Really enjoyed this. ☺️
Such beautiful vocals, as always. Very gentle but with a strong, empowering message. Love this phrase "our soul can never find a way to imagine an open door" - rings so true and said so poetically.
The recording sounds great! I really enjoyed it! Great melody and lyrics! And your voice shines like always!
I really enjoyed listening! I love how the lyrics are sad, but still hopeful. And the melody and your voice sound really comforting.
