Liner Notes

This song is in response to @davidtaro wondering why nobody writes about trigonometry or macrobiotics so I gave it a go. I was travelling so I wrote lyrics first in the airport, found a beat, then chords. Well I guess one chord, but it's a good one (D major-ish). Slow start to FAWM, but I had way too much fun with this one. There are plenty more in the hopper, just need to speed up tracking.

I also jumped the shark a bit on the mastering chain, but I'm not sorry and I'll do it again. I'm trying to learn the occult art of mastering so if any fellow FAWMers would like me to feed their track to this beast I'd relish the opportunity. Hopefully it comes out better on the other side. Send a message if you're interested.

Lyrics

Try to see it my way I'm living small but I want it all Help me get those big G's Fit into those skinny jeans Living in the land of plenty Feeling twenty

But woe is me And me is woe I need a woman to understand How to find that flow to the promised land

Chorus What do I want? That big life How am I gonna get it? Gonna eat right Macrobiotics!

Unapologetic, anabolic, so bucolic, let's get erotic over Macrobiotics!

Try to see it my way Triangulate just what I ate Grains and veg No meat, No meat Or dairy, kinda scary Coffee without cream

So woe is me And me is woe I need a woman to understand How to find that flow to the promised land

Chorus

Here's an angle that I like to see You and me Intersecting Your friend makes three Trigonometry! Big ole mirror on the ceiling A mirage you see Refracting light Through waves of heat Menage a three Trigonometry!

Chorus

Hell yeah, heavens no, let's go Macrobiotics!

I'll meet you at the corner You should call me On my satellite phone I'm never alone Cause Trigonometry! Tell your friend hi No need for an alibi The three body problem's not a problem When you live that big life

i started FAWM when i was in grad school, and was known to write songs to help me remember all the steps in the tricarboxylic acid cycle or michaelis menten kinetics. #schoolhouserock is real!

also really digging the weird (in a good way) mix of textures... want a good southern blues/bluegrass jam with a drum machine? yes, please!

Are those still languishing on a hard drive somewhere?!? They should probably be unearthed at some point. Thanks for listening and kind words, also for starting this audacious beautiful experiment in song writing and bringing everyone together, it's amazing what a a creative supportive group of people can do! Much obliged.

there are so many shockingly unexpected and utterly delightful phrases and rhymes in here, i scarcely know where to begin! i cannot believe that i’m listening to banjo/fiddle/dobro with an electronic backbeat about trigonometry (kind of 😂😉) and macrobiotics that was recorded and mastered the old fashioned way. fawm is… so fucking cool?! i’m so glad you found us! there was truly no way to know i needed this in my life until you came around, so thanks 🤯

I can't thank you enough, this made my day and FAWM! I think I need to take next February off just to have enough time to listen and comment on all the amazing music happening, I'm looking forward to hearing more of your work too, I have so much to learn, happy to be here!

Who is this @richaaaay fellow? He sounds unhinged.

Anyway, I cannot even begin to tell you how delighted I am that this is a song that now exists in the world. And it's so frickin' fun! Love the bluesy dobro with the little bits of country fiddle, the drums sound phat and awesome, your vocal is fantastic. For a minute at the start I thought you were going to launch into We Can Work It Out 😆 , but then we're talking MacroBs and everything takes off. The way you work in trigonometry is also inspired and hilarious.

The chorus is so so good. Call and response done brilliantly. Absolutely five gold stars for this...

Thank you for the insightful comments! And yes, when I was stuck on the concept I asked myself, how would the Beatles start this song? Then I didn't have the heart to cut the line and cover my tracks.

Hah, that singalong chorus is great! I love all the sounds here, the drum machine works really well against the acoustic instruments.

[pic]

Thanks! I want to experiment more with the interplay between analog synths and traditional bluegrass instruments. The seem like polar opposites, but the contrast might be interesting.

[pic]

Yeah, I've been very interested in how lo-fi/retro drum machines and analog synths might fit into genres that normally call for "real" sounding drums and instruments. Fun stuff!

Lol. Catchy song and great response to David's comment. Very nice!

[pic]

Thanks! I felt ridiculous yelling macrobiotics alone in my basement, completely sincere, but very fun.

Nice dobro work! Love the call and response chorus. Sounds like Steve Earle joined They Might Be Giants!

Thanks! The Gretsch boxcar is super fun to play, I'm always looking for ways to get it in the mix.

catchy, nodding along here, great sounds! love the dancing around with the theme and the rhythm and rhyme playfulness. Great energy and the call and response sits just right. Nice take on the challenge

Thank you so much for listening! Such a ridiculous concept but I had fun playing with it.

Thank you for your kind words! This song was really fun and just kind of came together. I have some time to listen later, looking forward to checking out what you've posted.
