Triumphant Is the Night

Liner Notes
My attempt at "raw black metal" (although I don't quite like that term, as it has become a trend of sorts during the last few years) in the vein of the likes of Judas Iscariot and Darkthrone. The middle part felt like it needed some clean vocal style chanting, so I tried my best. Luckily, a rather off-key and stumbling performance is only suitable for the genre :D The drums should be muddier for the style, but don't really have time or patience to figure out how to get it done.
Lyrics
A blade from the shadows Sinking to the rotten soil Severing the wretched ties Strung by a weak code
In the winter windsโ howl A true tormenting note Striking freezing terror To the Christian hearts
A lustful ode Through bloodred night With cold, hard claws Scratching the skin of the earth
Amongst the hideous tombs An unholy gathering Snow-covered corpses Under sign of hate
The deepest wisdom Laid in scarlet violence As their monuments burn Triumphant is the night

Cheers! Glad you liked it!
This one's built around some really solid riffs. The two main contrasting sections play great off one another. The chanting (moaning?) really fits the vibe.
Thank you! I was surprisingly satisfied with the chanting part myself!
"Striking freezing terror, To the Christian hearts" love it! As others have said, the middle section is great. The backing vocals in that bit feel like some occult ritual is occurring!
Hahah, yes, that's probably the most black metal line of them all! ๐ Thank you for the compliments!
I've joked about this with friends before when old black metal classics get remastered and rereleased...shouldn't they be DEmastered? I want my classic black metal sounding like total dogshit, thank you. Really like the riffs here and the change in feels, definitely reminiscent of those bands and the guitar tones and chants are perfect. I don't know too much 'raw black metal', but came across the genre while I was reading the (quite excellent) book Tonight It's a World We Bury. Tukaaria's Raw to the Rapine is worth checking out imo, even if just to see how far bad production can get pushed.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I feel "raw black metal" is a term which was developed later. I feel those classic acts defined the sound and are very raw indeed, but they're just "black metal", 'cause, well, rawness is a fairly crucial trait of black metal :) Anyway, I'm definitely trying to lean more to those legends of the scene rather than the newer acts with this one. Not to say there aren't good newer bands of the style around as well, 'cause there are!
Ah yep. I distinguish those original classic bands by calling them "trve kvlt frostbitten blรคck mรซtวฟl" so everyone knows who I mean.
Hahahhah! Very grim indeed! ๐
Production wise drums maybe too good for the genre, but they are composed so appropriately, so I don't think thats an issue. Very beliavable stuff. This would very well go along with more better known raw-BM. Also, the chants are on point, nothing wrong there either.
Thank you! I hate my voice, so I'm always very unsure about doing clean vocals ๐
That middle section is killer. The drums work great, the idea that there is a "right" sound for a bm band doesn't sound very trve to me ๐
Heh, I suppose, but would be fun to embrace that lo-fi sound all the way!
I love how you point out the the drums should be crappier to get that Trve Kvlt sound. But the rest of it is properly crusty and frostbitten. The chants in particular are absolutely perfect. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto would be proud of you ๐ค๐๐ค
Cheers, man! Getting such compliments from you means a lot, since you know what you're talking about! ๐ค
Hits like ten ton hammer in my face! Cold raw and brutal like it should be. Made my day much better.
