Who's Afraid (Comments First)
Liner Notes
After much thought and a little bit of "F it" energy, I've decided to attempt this challenge. Hit me with those comments.
ALRIGHTY HERE WE GO. I'm afraid I may have disappointed quite a few of you, as what chose to come out for this didn't always align with the suggestions. It was still a really interesting experience and I'm happy with what did come out, which is the most important part!
Here's what made the cut vs what didn't:
'Round the House percussion: Nope. Sorry.
Hypnotizing guitar hook: Not necessarily? But got a cool riff.
Wild boar grunts: No. Because...what.
Shadow Work approach: Mildly. There's metaphor in these lyrics for sure. Please let me know what it is when you figure it out because I have no idea.
Voice going low: Today's opposite day.
Harmonies with no 5ths: SUCCESS
Echo effect at end: Yup
Diminished/Suspended chords: Alas. I know few. None of them made it into this song.
Satie quote: I couldn't fit, "Ah, the cows" in poetically, but I think I did an okay job paraphrasing some of his other gems.
Lyrics
Who's afraid of the rapture Who's afraid of the big bad God For He's as miserable as we And She sure feels like a fraud
We come into the world so young In an age that is so old Cage the fire inside our hearts So the hearth does not grow cold
Don't wanna talk about it Just plant a thorn and let it grow Don't wanna bottom out 'cause Who's afraid of the big, big bad, be honest
Get lost inside your own shadow Go get lost on a winding road Feel the earth under your skin From your heel to your toes
Don't wanna talk about it Just plant a thorn and let it grow Don't wanna bottom out 'cause Who's afraid of the big, big bad, be honest
Who's afraid of the rapture Who's afraid of the violet sky Who's afraid of a broken heart But prepares their soul to die
Don't wanna talk about it Just plant a thorn and let it grow Don't wanna bottom out 'cause Who's afraid of the big, big bad, be honest
Don't wanna talk about it Just plant a thorn and let it grow Don't wanna bottom out 'cause Who's afraid of the big, big bad, be honest

Thank you for helping me build it!!
You can never go wrong by quoting Satie.
How may diminished and Suspended chords do you know wow
How did you do that crazy echo effect near the end? Love it!
Wow, I loved that you did the harmony vocals (almost?) without 5ths.
OMG! I never knew your voice could go THAT low!
This is a distinctive approach to shadow work, very insightful.
When first listening to your song I didn't see why you put in those weird wild boar grunts (or whatever it is) but it grew on me after a few times.
That guitar hook is hypnotizing.
Those are some different and wild percussion instruments? Are they just things you found in the house?
Glad I dared! I do think you incorporated my suggestion. Some great imagery and sound here, dark and oblique and playful. :-)
