The Drowned Land

The Drowned Land is the fertile land of Nubia, along the banks of the Nile, even narrower than the true Egypt, and now drowned under Lake Nasser. Cruising above it less than a week ago in MS Omar El Khayam, gross tonnage 4,000. 113 meters (371 feet) long. We had a lot of Nubians as staff, and as guides. Egyptian broadly, but proud of their Nubian ancestry.
I'm sure I sat down to try something bright and jolly, but this happened instead. And now I have in mind my 15-year-old's memory of the lovely village of Jindabyne, also now in dark deeps. I'm sure that will appear at some point. Music by and Copyright © 2026 TJ Fatchen All Rights Reserved APRA-AMCOS

This is sublime! So expressive, with its rambling, shifting harmonic journeys and epic melodic themes. I love how you’ve really used the full range of dynamics and that killer mode change at the 3 min mark was particularly beautiful.
This is some truly beautiful and emotionally resonant playing, Tim. Makes me want to fly to Egypt and check things out. Looking forward to hearing more of what your trip has inspired. Thanks for sharing.
How touching! Your beautiful musical tribute has given life agaibto the land now submerged under water! ❤️ Sometimes all we have are memories, but music can transform them into something new.
Very soothing but with atmospheric depth. This would make good accompaniment for focused work.
Wow, I've been looking/wishing on those Nile cruises! This is expansive and majestic in tone. An early build that keeps building really grabs, then it settles down once more to continue our voyage. The final part is more contemplative, remembering what once was and is now gone forever.
Sounds contemplative and weighty. Maybe some sorrow runiing in the undercurrent. Beautifully moving progression. Like waves on the shore of Lake Nasser.
At the one-minute mark where things get big - Yummy! This reminds me of the wonder and depth I felt the first time I listened to the Alan Parsons Project album, "Pyramid." I'd lay on the floor between the speakers and daydream as the music played and this puts me right back in that mindset.
Beautiful and moving. I like the shimmering sound, as if a chorus was singing.
you have that rise and fall that works so well at manipulating emotions on a movie soundtrack. the piece is not exactly sad, more like wonderstruck,,,a sense of awe followed by scenes of reflections, climaxed in one long, slow fade.
Nearly snuck this past me! ppppf if i had a dollar for every time i tried jolly ! Not sad this to me though - Very reflective! It is a lovely piece Tim you can really let it wash over you!
So wistful - but I can also see the memory of a beautiful country that once was shining and then fading away.
Love the simplicity of just piano and synth, it's so cinematic. I love the build into the lower notes and how it rises back above and finds this peaceful plain. The strength into peace ebb and flow is really nice.
A gloriously evocative work of music which feels as wide as the Nile.
So very moving. My mind's eye conjured teen me choreographing an improvisational ice skating routine to the stirring notes. Adulting me enjoying the journey back. Your soundtracks to life are magical.
