Liner Notes

This is the most unusual song I've ever participated in. Liz (@kahlo2013) provided the spooky lyrics and I had to figure out how to sound both musical and spooky at the same time. Part of the solution was using a minor key. The other part was to use weird chord choices in some places. For example, one section is comprised of five different m7b5 chords. Another section has seven different diminished chords in a row. Add in a diabolical laugh and some vocal sound effects and we have a song ready for next Halloween.

Liz says: I love collaborating with @paul_pedersen as he is such a skilled and versatile musician who is willing and able to bring even my quirkiest lyrics to life! This is my new favorite of our ~20 collabs! His musical approach, instrumentation, and vocals are brilliant! That sinister laugh! Thanks Paul for the gorgeous goulishness!!!

Lyrics

Shadows in the attic Murmurs in the wall Whispers in the closet Footsteps in the hall

Haunting sights and sounds From dusk until dawn Haunting sights and sounds Since you've been gone

Chatters in the kitchen Rumbles in the den Glimmers in the cellar Whimpers in the vent

Haunting sights and sounds From the house to the fence Haunting sights and sounds Have grown intense

When I make low sights (long sigh) When I make lights glow (Surprise! I see you!) When I make warm breaths (heavy breaths) I am here, always here (Haaaa!)

And I know, I know (Ohhhhh) You want me to go But no, oh no I'm not going to go (Arrrgh)

Haunting sights and sounds Haunting sights and sounds Haunting sights and sounds Haunting sights and sounds

I love spooky lyrics. I enjoyed the bouncy feel to the music . That Boris Karloff "Ha Ha" was classic. And the ending was great, once I peeled myself off the ceiling, I could appreciate it a little better!!lol

Thanks for taking a walk through the fun house, Garry.

So fun to listen to. Beautiful song and collaboration. Very visual, theatrical and cool. The end had me jumping of my chair.

Thanks Doug. Definitely fun to do.

I’m so glad you thought of the screams growls. This is the perfect song for it! Fun collab — it doesn’t go silly, either. Especially with that ending! Well written and musically conceived.

I'm glad you listened and liked it. It was certainly fun to work with the imaginative lyrics from Liz.

Wow, such fun lyrics and I love the chord and melodic choices you made to bring the lyrics to life, Paul!

Thanks for listening and responding, Alli. I'm a bit of a chord guy. I find it almost impossible to write a three-chord song. On this one I pushed the boundaries even more than usual and I had fun.

Well, isn't this fun!!! I really love the lyrics and sound effects... how you just take the bull by the horns. Great work!

Thanks! Glad you had some fun with our ghosts and goblins, Matt.

Liz could or have found a better partner than Paul for this Halloweene lyric. He outmashed the monster mash in his tricj or treat bag of devices to make this as hauntingly kid-friendly as possible.

Thanks so much, Bill. I always enjoy working with the lyrics that Liz creates, but this one was really fun to put together.
