Liner Notes

A Bible study friend often says she needs to keep her nose in her own backyard. I understand it to mean paying more attention to yourself instead of how others behave. It struck me as a nice hook for a song - and here it is. I used my tenor ukulele and added an alto line to the chorus. #christian #fuc

Lyrics

I have a friend who shares her wisdom Some of the things she says really ring true The fact she says them to herself Doesn’t mean they’re not for me and you

I’ll keep my nose in my own backyard That’s the wisest I can be Instead of expecting someone else to change I’ll focus on changing me

When a man asked “who is my neighbor” Jesus didn’t describe what he was looking for Instead he taught the man to be neighborly To focus on his own behavior more

Chorus

There’s the teaching of removing the log in your eye Before the speck in the eye of your friend Keeping your nose in your own backyard Is a lesson without an end

If you can't change the world you can work on changing yourself... which is a job never complete in this life. Beautiful tune and solid lyric. I like the unexpected chords in the chorus.

Love the progression here.. it transforms the melody. Great lyric set, with an important lesson. Those harmonies sound like Dawn, but I've learned that I can't tell the difference between you two sometimes! Great tune :)

I think "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" was actually a flawed translation from the original Hebrew/Aramaic of Jesus's lesson to us to "Verily I say unto you, keep your nose in your own backyard..." [Looks skyward to see if any lightning bolts are headed my way]

Loved the song! ❤️

Thank for the reminder. I love the way the lilting tune and beautiful vocals gently point to an important lesson, not by preaching but by example.

It's not FAWM until you're here.

I feel what you're talking about. It's brave to keep working on being who you are.

Chorus is my favourite bit because that chord progression feels new for you? Am I making sense?

Anyhow. ONWARDS.

Ha! I normally do “major” but snuck in some minor chords in both the chorus and verses this song. Good ear.

Some good advice for living set to a lovely tune. Bonus - great harmony in the chorus!

First, the harmonies are beautiful. Great concept and teaching. I like the line "I'll focus on changing me" The lesson on being a neighbor oneself is a good one, much better than peeking through one's neighbor's windows.
