Ready to Change
by @ohljazz
Liner Notes
Starting my contributions this year with a rewrite of a song I started last month during my January song-a-day challenge. I've thought for years that everyone wants change but nobody wants to do anything different. I finally put that grumble into a song. #guywithpiano #jazz #change
Lyrics
I’m ready to change I certainly know that I must I’ve seen the reactions From people I value and trust Build a brighter future Lead with passion and heart As long as I don’t have to do Anything different I’m eager to start
I’m ready to change I say it and get some odd looks But this time I mean it Stocked up on the podcasts and books Reach my true potential Aim and shoot for the sky As long as I don’t have to do Anything different I’m happy to try
I’ve heard change is a constant Nothing stays in place Time and nature take their toll The world hurtles through space
Species come and go Mutated and evolved It works for them but do I Really need to get involved?
I’m ready to change Stand up to my doubts and my fears Put plans into motion Prepared for the sweat and the tears Head into the journey But, and this one is key If this means I have to do Anything different I wouldn’t be me

You expressed that masterfully! Your approach to the lyrics are so well executed - wry and poignant. Really sweet piano accompaniment. This probably sounds silly, but my mind went to some place between McCoy Tyner and Rowlf from the Muppet Show 😂
I love that!! Rowlf is one of my piano heroes! (as is McCoy of course)
I think this would go over like gangbusters at the bar at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC. Your lyrics and wry singing style are a joy, and the piano accompaniment is everything that's needed. Well done!
I appreciate your kind comments. I'm ready to head to NYC for that show! :-)
Lovely stuff. Beautiful performance and killer lyricism. The piano is so dreamy.
Thank you! I'm enjoying your posts and envy your production skills
Thanks so much! If you ever wanna trade musical ideas for production tips I’m always down! You’re a helluva player!
I remember your wry witty musicality from last year Oren, I'm delighted you're back again. Your songcraft is sublime. This feels like it could have been directly lifted from a sequel to Guys and Dolls. The theme is so true - we're all resistent to change - especially those of us in the west in our comfortable chairs. This is as brilliant as I remember you. 😄
Thank you so much for those kind comments! I'm enjoying listening to your contributions this time.
Really good work, great lyrics and melodies. It tickled my "kleinkunst"-nerve (Dutch theatric comedy with music segments)
