Liner Notes

(Music to come.) #singersongwriter #folk #skirmish #cliches In the first skirmish, there was something about using a movie title and writing a song unrelated to the actual movie storyline. I found the 2016 documentary "Obsolete," which deals with robots/AI replacing human endeavor, which is appropriate in today's music environment - but in this song I posit that we humans become perfectly obsolete on our own, no robots required.

Finally - music! I had no idea how true this would turn out to be.

Lyrics

I was living my life in simulated stereo Cognitive dissonance got me where I wanted to go Half of me was living clean, the other half was in a zoo Until one day I looked down and saw I had a faint tattoo

Was it always there, I’d never noticed it before Or was it just a stain, a splash I picked up off the floor Then I got a closer look, a string of faintly printed words Stamped in old dot matrix style, for all you classic PC nerds

BORN ON DATE was the first line, it appeared across my toes Then – BEST IF USED BY ’96, that was 30 years ago! REUSE, RECYCLE, OR DISCARD ON THE CURB NEAR THE STREET That’s when I realized, oh no – I’M OBSOLETE!

True, I’m one or two bananas short of a whole bunch And some folks tell me lately that I’ve been out to lunch My elevator stops before it makes it to the top And sometimes I forget to put the flip before the flop

I’ll admit, I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer I’m not the brightest bulb in the chandelier no more My driveway doesn’t make it all the way to the street Now when people laugh at me I point them to my feet

Hmm - I'm being prompted to leave feedback here on my own song. Well, I suppose there are many improvements to be made once the song is taken back out into the wild once FAWM is over.

Totally unhinged concept, weird and wonderful as usual.

That is an interesting take and brought a smile to my face.

My only constructive criticism would be the second two verses, though there is nothing individually wrong with any line, is essentially saying the same thing eight times. If I was rewriting it, I'd probably keep two and the rest would be a list of why I'm still useful and not ready for the scrap yard.

I totally agree that there are too many cliches. (That's probably why they are cliches.) The singer will need to work hard at determining whether he's still useful, I think. ;-)
