I've always loved the sound of the cello but hadn't ever played one. My friend Bruce just bought an electric upright bass... and it sounded sweet so I started looking at those.. BUT then got side-tracked into looking at electric cellos.

I have been deep diving into mandolin for the last year and half and mandolin strings are also tuned in fifths like a cello strings... so maybe the cello would make sense to me? My new/used electric cello arrived a couple of days ago and we are getting to know each other. Hello stranger.

(Also, I am stomping on a tambourine in the video while I am playing.)

This sounds so cool - really love the tambourine in there as well. I've really gotta get back into playing the cello. LOVE all the slides, and the joy in the performance overall :) Happy FAWM!

Who would think that mando and cello are cousins? This sounds marvelous--hard to imagine that you're in the early stages with the instrument. It sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Lovely little groove and what a great way to get to know your new instrument. I can feel the head of this being the foundation for a more structured/layered/planned exploration, but man I enjoyed the listen.

What a smoking jam. You put a lot lovely ear-candy in and you seem so comfortable. Have you heard of the Ashbory bass? Tonally it reminds me of it. Such a talented musician, Dan.

Thanks! It didn’t come with a bow but I did order one and it should be here in the next day or two. I’ve been having fun using this hybrid pizzicato style but excited to try bowing. I’ve never really used a bow before but I hadn’t ever even played a cello at all until 2 days ago! Ha.

Wowwwwwwwwww. Fantastic playing, my friend! That is some crazy good stuff with the harmonics thrown in there. Everything fits so well and as always it is fun to watch you live. Crazy good skills, but giving us a fun jam as well. Nice work - I think that new instrument is a winner!

Thanks John! Yeah, I really enjoying it and looking forward to continuing to learn what I am doing. I ordered a bow too that hasn’t arrived yet so that should be fun or potentially disastrous. Haha. Only one why to find out.

That is some absolutely nifty, funky bass-ing! And I dig the tambourine - I sure couldn't do that. Fun to see you in a video, too. Love it!
