Lyrics
UNDER A LUCKY STAR
Words & Music by Jerry Pettit Facebook.com/JerryPettitMusic
I was walking down a crowded street in autumn When the world was painted gold and rust You were standing by a corner reading poetry In a city built on dreams and dust
If I'd left five minutes earlier that morning If you'd chosen any other place to stand We'd be strangers in a story never written But the fates had other plans
CHORUS: We were born UNDER A LUCKY STAR Shining down from who knows where In a universe of infinite chances Somehow you and I found each other there Through the chaos and the countless miles Through the years that kept us far apart We were guided by some cosmic hand Born UNDER A LUCKY STAR
All the roads I traveled led me to your doorway Every wrong turn was exactly right All the loves I lost were lessons that would teach me How to recognize you in the light
And the odds were astronomical against us Two small souls in seven billion strong But the planets aligned in perfect formation And the stars sang us this song
BRIDGE: And I think about the mystery Of the moments that could have been All the parallel lives we're living In the worlds where we never met But in this one, oh in this one We found our way through the dark And I wake up every morning Thanking heavens for that spark
So here's to serendipity and magic Here's to lightning striking twice Here's to all the beautiful coincidences That led me to your eyes
I don't know if it was written in the stardust Or just dumb luck and perfect timing, dear But I'm grateful for whatever force conspired To bring you here
CHORUS: We were born UNDER A LUCKY STAR Shining down from who knows where In a universe of infinite chances Somehow you and I found each other there Through the chaos and the countless miles Through the years that kept us far apart We were guided by some cosmic hand Born UNDER A LUCKY STAR

It is amazing to think about how we meet that right person. Seems like a miracle, especially after all the not so rights. This is so positive and wonderful. Very nice!
Really great story..love the B3 playing in the background. This is a cool line "I don't know if it was written in the stardust"
Feeling transported by the beautiful lyrics and production. I like so much about this, especially the little touches of added instrumentation.
Lovely lyrics, Jerry! Cosmic wonder about soulmates. Beautiful melody. You write catchy choruses!
Interesting phrasing, the accompaniment is very effective too, great song
Such a wondrous cosmic love song.
There are some complex layers in here. It is lovely song of soulmates.
Some great lines in this! 'a city built on dreams and dust", 'a universe of infinite chances', 'the mystery Of the moments that could have been' Nice work!
I think you've written a classic Valentine's song, Jerry! Very romantic without being at all clichéd...great imagery, vocals and melody...💘
Your songs always have so much vivid imagery. I'd say that makes you a master storyteller. As a result, It's great that you write songs. 😊
Great imagery in this. I love the cosmos theme. So expansive, which is great analogy. I like those key changes. Very cool!
Wonderfully detailed story telling brought to life by your golden vocals and such a compelling melody. What a pretty bridge! Really nicely done Jerry.
this is some hardcore romantic balladering...when you think about the odds, its pretty amazing...but also depressing because you wonder if it can eve happen again. i like the way you rush through the lyrics, as if you are chasing those star. and you voice sounds great, no matter what you think
Brilliant writing again, of course! The phrasing reminds me of Bobby Goldsboro's "Little Green Apples" for some odd reason, even though it's a slower BPM.
Cool modulation between verse and chorus! The quickly-moving vocal rhythms over the long sustained chord progression underlays the storytelling feel nicely.
That is a beautiful guitar figure, and I like the way the strummed guitar backs it up, and then an organ. Another lovely bit of melancholy drenched in melody.
