How You Remember
by @paintonit
Liner Notes
I'm going for that childhood lightning bug summer night feeling.
"To remember is human, to forget is profound"
Lyrics
When I was young I played with cap guns With my cousins in the yard We caught a frog or two for fun Then we do it all tomorrow
I was typically a shy child Occasionally I got so wild You and me playing telephone between our dreams Not as lonesome as it seems
How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is
A box of tinplate model trains The marker spells the owner’s name From before the first World War Belly up in a vintage store
A music box plays minor key With love forever, Dittany Twist of the sprocket let it play I’ll let you haunt me every day
How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is
Maybe soon I’ll come around To remember is human, to forget is profound Me and you playing telephone between our dreams Not as lonesome as it seems
How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is How you remember ain’t exactly how it is

Thanks man. Nostalgia feels good, but I can't stay there too long!
So lovely! I love the way the ideas spill over each other the same way the guitar and vocal do. Is that an open tuning? I want to try an open tuning song. Great nostalgia vibes...
Open D! I'd been struggling to make this song work for years. Picked up my friend's guitar the other day, tuned this way, and the song came together immediately.
Perfect melding of instrumentation, melody and lyrics. This is one of those songs that takes each of us to a place inside ourselves. Thanks.
Yup, just like every other comment — teared up almost immediately. Such a moving fun cozy song.
I legitimately almost started to cry and then the tweedle, tweedle, tweedle guitar part came back in and lifted my spirits. Impeccably done, sir.
the tweedle tweedles really tie the song together!
The best kind of song is one that feels nostalgic and fresh at the same time. I love how light and airy the guitar is, and your vocals sound so clear and soothing!
The guitar is excellent the vocals are too!! Loved those sweet guitar breaks! Loved the harmonies I really enjoyed the nostalgic lyrics that took me way back!! Loved this song alot!! Awesome composition and performance!!
This is so completely beautiful. The language is so nostalgic but also timeless. “I’ll let you haunt me every day” really hits at the end of that little verse. Loved the whole dang thing.
one of the best songs i've heard in a long long time
I think you do a great job getting at that feeling! I love the playing telephone between dreams line. The guitar on this is so fun too
a little john k samson and a little tom petty. this is so pretty. the lyrics are rather extraordinary -- I would pull a section to comment with but truly the whole thing resonates so deeply. another dittany appearance! love your approach this year!
hypnotic yet so groovy / boppy. Love the swirling guitars... like ordered beautiful chaos. This would sit perfectly as-is in a montage scene in a great film.
Astounding. Got me on the verge of tears with this one, really moving. Something about whatever you did with the time makes this so dreamlike and unmoored, it's perfect for that foggy misremembering feeling.
I love how the guitar cascades behind everything in a way that feels very polyrhythmic. It really makes your vocals float like a river. Nostalgia is powerful man 💪
